Poll: Women Treated with Less Chivalry
The Washington TImes ^ | 8/17/10 | Jennifer Harper

Posted on 08/17/2010 9:58:42 AM PDT by lakeprincess

Feminists may insist that life for women has gotten better since the days when raucous female activists marched in the streets for equality and questioned traditional social mores...

Pollsters say otherwise. Things are out of kilter. And pretty dismal, according to a Harris Poll released Monday.

Eight out of 10 Americans, in fact, say, "Women today are treated with less chivalry than in the past."

Interesting. But I’m always treated with chivalry. Must be in part the way I dress and speak. Even when I’m a filthy mess from working in the stable, I smile and speak nicely and say please and thank you, and men always open the door for me, let me go first, smile back, and offer to help.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Who I open the door for doesn’t matter.

You, sir, are a gentleman. To the men who don’t... gentlemen are hot.

It’s just what they asked for, BUT NOT WHAT THEY WANT!

You forgot to mention Brad with Bill’s money and gayboy’s fashion sense should also dance like Fred Astaire, or whoever it is now.

My husband will open doors for women, elderly, disabled, etc. That’s the way he is, a nice person. His mom is very courteous and his dad was, too. It only takes a little courtesy like that- just a few seconds- to really brighten up someone’s day. It works! I know when a man opens a door for me (and you’d be surprised at how many men- usually younger ones- DON’T open doors for anybody!) I always smile and say thank you, and they LOVE it. I think , even with the feminist movement taken out of it, it’s just good manners. People seem to have less and less manners it seems.

You forgot to post a knee jerk broad brush stereotype alert. The”they”s and “them”s are flying all over the place. Shallow is as shallow does. Ps to the inexperienced guy above, no matter how many bras you wear, all real boobs sag eventually just like some stuff on men but I don’t hold it against them. Sarah palin feminists rock. They know how to be ladies but they don’t take any crap.

I saw a PBS Frontline episode on The Womens’ Movement. They concluded that it was actually the beginning of the Gay Rights Movement. It was all Lesbian Leadership that got impressionable young girls to go along with their empowerment mantra. “Who needs Men?” They asked. But the others didn’t know the full meaning.

Anybody see that video of the couple at the baseball game and the man jumps out of the way of the foul ball and watches it hit his girlfriend?

In our culture, women are now “bitches and hoes”.

Sleeping around is no longer taboo for women, so naturally the younger generation of men take full advantage of that and view women as sex objects.

Girls are shamed in school if they are “prude”.

Very sad times.

If you think most American women are high maintenance, fat, and crazy, you’re going to the wrong church, baby. And I promise you, with that attitude you are going to have problems with women no matter what country you get them from. Look at all of the happy, productive marriages there are, and all the men on FR here who adore their wives. And then take a long hard look at yourself, your dating strategies, what you offer. Because all American women aren’t fat crazy or high maintenance (depending on what your definition of “high maintenance” is).

Same here. I don’t work in a stable but I am an artist and dress pretty sloppy sometimes but it doesn’t seem to matter. I find younger women to be the rudest, like pushing ahead in a crowd and letting the door slam on you when you are entering behind them. I always hold the door open for the person behind me whether it is a man or a women, most women don’t.

Amen!

The first time I went down south (Georgia, more specifically), I was 14 years old. My half-brother’s little friend (he was 5) called me m’am! I was blown away.

They work on manners big time at the Catholic school my three older children attend. My 12 y.o. daughter is expert at saying ‘yes, sir’ and ‘no, m’am’.

I have a little boy who turns 8 in a few weeks, and he is always holding the door open for me or his sisters. His teachers at school say that he is very much the little gentleman when it comes to the little ladies in his class.

Yesterday, I was entering the grocery store with my nearly 3 y.o. son after dropping the kids off at school. An older gentleman—almost old enough to be my grandfather) was exiting and complimented me on my choice of dress. By the way he spoke, you could tell he was nostalgic for the days when women wore dresses every day and not just to church on Sunday. Which is funny, because in my younger days, I disliked wearing dresses for the most part. Today, it’s my preferred choice in daily wear.

Hubby always holds a door for a lady, even though half the time he gets a dirty look. A few have even snapped they they were capable of opening it themselves.

An old anecdote (true or not?) goes like this:

A man approached a door to a building and held it open for the young woman behind him.

She snapped "You don't need to hold the door just because I'm a lady!"

He replied "I didn't, I held the door because I am a gentleman."

Well, I don’t wear hats usually, but I do hold doors for ladies, regardless of their reaction to it. I remember seeing in older movies that when a lady walked into a room full of men, the men stood up as a gesture of respect. I sertainly have never witnessed that in person, I’m 48.

Women have lost their sense of who they are. In the overall scope of things, women are sacred because they carry within them the capability of nurturing and producing LIFE. Jesus samctified the reproductove process by choosing the Blessed Virgin Mary to be his mother. All women are fashioned as Mary is, therefore all should be treated with the utmost respect.

Our culture has sacrificed true womanhood, that is to say, the way it was intended by God, on the altar of contraception and abortion on demand. Pornography has objectified women in the minds of millions of men, so much so that they are considered by many to be mere playthings to be discarded once used.

Is it any wonder that women feel they are being treated in a less than respectful manner by most men they encounter?

never happy, are they?

Worse yet, when you're happy, they resent it.

I’ve had women snap at me for holding doors open for them at stores and banks. Now they complain if I don’t? Must be liberal women that are talking because it isn’t making any sense.

There’s a HUGE diffenence between Sarah Palin Feminists and “Femi-nazi’s”

THe Palin type are self-sufficient, yet gracious about it and behave like Ladies when the time is appropriate.

The Femi-nazi’s THINK they are self-sufficient, and are gracious about NOTHING.
