Vatican joins protests as France expels Gypsies [ flights followed a roundup of illegal immigrants]

The Vatican has joined in criticism of the French government for a campaign to round up and deport Gypsies living illegally in the country.

French immigration authorities put 130 members of the Gypsy, or “Roma,” minority on a plane to Romania on August 19. The previous day, another 86 had left. While French officials say that the departures are voluntary, they have threatened to expel any Roma people who decline to leave voluntarily. The flights followed a roundup of illegal immigrants living in Gypsy camps.

Archbishop Agostino Marchetto, the secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Migrants, said that it was “against European norms” to expel members of a particular minority group. “One cannot generalize and take an entire group of people and kick them out,” he argued.

Romania’s President Traian Basescu has also protested the French policy, and said he would bring his argument against the “xenophobic” campaign to the European Commission.

Then let the Vatican provide them sanctuary inside the boundaries of Vatican City.

That should do wonders for tourism there.

What is happening?

France is now the tough guy on illegals and Muslims...while the US is pandering to both groups.

Scary is when the French start acting with more authority than the USA. Proof we have some real wussified leaders in the USA.

Anyone familiar with Europe and Euros is that they despise the Gypsies (a more accurate term than the PC “Roma”)

Rome is already over-run with gypsies who rape, pillage and loot with abandon because the idiot PC authorities are afraid to single them out. Rome should follow France and deport the bastards. They particularly prey on tourists, using boys and girls to distract and rob you. The underage can’t be prosecuted.

Send them to the Vatican instead then. They’ll just love them good ol’ “Rotation-Europeans” in a week or two. Uh-huh.

My only question for the French government is:

are they willing to go into the many Muslim dominant slums around Paris and do the same thing??

I am not saying that all the French Muslims in those slums are neither citizens or legal immigrants, but many are illegal immigrants, and France knows it and I have not read about any major “round ups” particularly targeting them.

If I am right, then are they going after the gypsies only because they are such a small minority and have no traditional allies and they get to produce the image that they are doing something about “illegals”?

Clinton's grandmother was a fortune teller with carnivals that traveled the South in the summertime.

His 5X Great Grandfather Billy Blythe was known as "King of the Gypsies".

France can get away with this at the moment.

Still, the French' argument here is that these are Vlaach Gypsies and are all professional thieves. At the same time there are guitano who roam back and forth from Spain to France and back and nobody cares, so it's not entirely xenaphobic since it doesn't really relate directly to ethnicity ~ just to skilled trades!

You really can’t tell the difference between Italians and Gypsies around Rome unless you interview them.

Was the Pope paying them a compliment?

I’m a little confused. I think Romania is now part of the EU, which means Romanian citizens should be free to live where ever they want to within the EU... No?

You don’t really want to interview them. Do they have an accent in Italian? Of course, I wouldn’t know the difference. The ones I met (trying to rob me on a major street in broad daylight in front of scores of people) pretended not to know a word of Englishh.

The term “Roma” is more correct. The word “gypsy” was invented under the mistaken belief they were coming into Europe from Egypt ~ rather, they were crossing from Turkey to Bulgaria!

Probably Italians. It’s not like Rome doesn’t have its own criminal class ~ it always has had such people ~ always will.

Not all citizens of all EU member or affiliated states have the right of free entry and employment to all the other states.

One of the more interesting things that popped up shortly after the Czech Republic was granted "membership" was a parliamentary group wanted to immediately round up all the Gypsies and send them to the Western member states.

That got stopped in a hurry.

So far America is the only place that's gotten a handle on "the gypsy problem" ~ turned 'em loose taking settlers West, and then hired them into aluminum forming and assembly plants during WWII (they had a specialty in light metal work which was of immense value in building airplanes).

It is actually difficult to find traditional gypsies in this country because they live and do the same things other people do. A classless society has its advantages.

For the sake of "research" i've introduced myself and discussed modern gypsy life in America with people who would tell me they were, in fact, Roma, and knew their family or tribe ~ which they would name.

At least France is showing that they finally have the guts to do what the U.S. should be doing, demand that illegal immigrants live up to the price of being a resident in the nation, or not enjoy the full benefits. Sadly though, most U.S. politicians lack the same amount of gut to actually try doing the same, or even see the threat of an overrunning and a bankruptcy by illegal immigration
