All I can say is WOW, at least for now at any rate. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reversal of this after the dems lose big in the fall though.
Re wheel weights; I used to filch them off of a local garage - they melt down and cast up into pretty decent pistol bullets... or at least they used to.
A guy at a tire place told me that the EPA got after them because the weights thrown off of wheels alongside roads were poisoning wildlife, so now they have to make them out of something else.
Some residual lead from shooting is a problem with birds, according to a Biologist i know - they ‘crop’ some lead flakes off of ranges along with the gravel they need to digest things, and it can kill them or make their eggs not work. Bullets shot into game are often left in gut piles where scavengers eat em and it can mess them up too.
So yes; there IS an environmental issue with lead introduced into the environment by bullets, but I don’t think it’s the end of the world and banning ALL lead ammo is NOT the answer by any means!
Regular lead abatement and recycling at ranges would be a good start, IMHO. Perhaps the EPA would like to give us some grant money to facilitate more of that? (Dream on, eh?)
“Ya know, gay penguins and all that..”
Great line!
The EPA is going to focus on the Coal Industry and Concrete Industries by labeling ‘fly ash’ a hazardous material, remember: “under my plan electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” -Obama
Check six.
LOL - indeed.
Thank God for another prayer answered.
2. The EPA would still be pushing for such a ban, except the Dems are afraid for their political life now.
The NRA sent a letter to EPA on 8/20 detailing that the TSCA does not allow EPA to regulate ammo. (NSSF also sent them a letter). EPA acknowledged the meat of the letter(s) in their response on 8/27 where they noted they had NO authority.
Here's an NRA release detailing the whole series of events:http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=6010&issue.
The NRA/NSSF was absolutely behind this. I CAN see the Dems breathing a sigh of relief that the issue will go away now (well not for lead sinkers apparently...let's all keep an eye on that one, too).
sorry but thats baloney,I dont believe the hysteria over lead shot or fishing weights
The government has already started with wheel weights. Government VMF’s are now using wheel weights made out of zinc.
