NRA declines to endorse Reid in Nevada Senate race
The Associated Press ^ | August 27, 2010 | Kevin Freking

Sen. Harry's Reid's support for President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominees has cost him the endorsement of the National Rifle Association in his re-election bid. The NRA is a force in rural states like Nevada where many voters own guns and hunt. The absence of the NRA's blessing represents a setback that Reid's campaign was quick to address Friday by noting that NRA executive Wayne LaPierre once called him a "true champion of the Second Amendment." Christopher W. Cox, chairman of the NRA's Political Victory Fund, said Friday that the organization strongly opposed the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, and it had warned lawmakers that the NRA would weigh that vote when it came to its endorsements.

you're better off giving your money to the GOA, the SAF, and the Cato Institute.

How stupid can you possibly be? The goa has NEVER done a single thing on their own. NEVER.

The SAF is a good organization but they haven't had the power that the NRA does. The SAF despite their small size has almost as many lawsuits as the NRA.

The Cato Institute with Robert Levy started Parker vs. Washington D.C. before we had Alito and Roberts. If it wasn't for the NRA slowing things done and the case involving Heller, we would have lost. Thank you, NRA. By the way, Robert Levy thanks you too. Anyone even mentioning the goa is brain dead stupid.

Elena Kagan my ass. The NRA heard loud and clear from the members and crapped their pants.

Now, if only their members would send the message that Wayne LaPierre has outlived his usefulness as Executive Vice President. His record has been checkered at best. After all, he ran the NRA during the 90s, one of the worst decades in American history for those of us who believe in the right to keep and bear arms.

Of course, the second decade of his tenure was better, including the greatest victory for the Second Amendment in modern history - D.C. v. Heller. However, if the NRA had had its way, Heller never would have happened.

There is an old saying used by Drill Sergeants (army) and Drill Instructors in the USMC: When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds WILL follow. I think the NRA just recognized the absolute truth of that.

Alright, the GoA was probably a silly one to add. I admire that the stick to their guns, but your money probably won't go so far with them.

The SAF is a good organization but they haven't had the power that the NRA does. The SAF despite their small size has almost as many lawsuits as the NRA.

I understand that the NRA is powerful and far more adept at Washington politics than the other pro-2A organizations. It is therefore very useful. However, the price of that influence seems to be a serious lack of principle.

The NRA didn't "slow things down". They actively tried their damnedest to force Levy and Gura to abandon the whole thing. And the last time I talked to Bob Levy, he was hardly thanking the NRA.

Absolutely....but hat tip to the NRA for not only 'hearing' but listening. How many times have we voiced our opinions and concerns in the past few years...only to fall on deaf ears?

The NRA was kissing Ried’s rear-end an issue or two back in the ‘American Rifleman’ when they published an article about what a 2A champion he was because he came across with some federal pork to build a shooting range in Nevada.

I let the NRA that they would get no more donations from me after I saw that article. Ried of all people, and like they need a shooting range in Nevada? You can shoot anywhere there on the millions of acres of Federal BLM land.

They will stay out of the race entirely, according to the article.

Cowards. I wrote them three times telling them I would cancel my Life Membership of they endorsed Reid. Thankfully they listened. But not endorsing Angle is cowardice.

I agree. Their membership would have taken a hit all to support a dirtbag like Reid.
