The Department of Defense announced Friday that it was denying four states' requests to waive requirements of a law intended to protect the voting rights of military personnel overseas, but five other states were granted exemptions because their alternative accommodations were deemed adequate.

The states denied exemptions to the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act were Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii and Wisconsin, as well as the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Waivers were granted to Delaware, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Washington.

It’s strange that some of the states have primaries on Sept 14th and some of them got waivers and others didn’t.

I think all the Sept 14th should not get the exemption.

I see that Duke Biden is still very much in control of his duchy. By all means, grant exemptions to ALL states with military installations. We can’t have stupid military people deciding elections. that’s for the dead, the illegals and prisoners to do./s

Of course, I will let my state rep have it. His RINOism will end his career yet. He gets away with it only because he runs unopposed, a particularly Delaware thing to do.

The RINO Party and the RAT party have this marriage of convenience - you give me my districts and I’ll give you yours and we’ll have gentlmanly contests in the remaining few to please the peasants.

I voted by absentee ballot for 20 years while on active duty with the US Navy. One year my ballot arrived the day AFTER the election. It was too late for my vote to count, but I mailed the ballot anyway disappointed it would be disqualified because of the late postmark.

The years have rolled on and technology is much better. Today, there should be NO reason why our men and women in uniform, serving our nation, perhaps in dangerous situations, should be denied the American privilege of voting. There should be NO reason to deny these Americans their vote.

No waivers to this law should be granted. Not a one.

The military should be allowed to vote online on the same day, with the results transmitted electronically back to the polls and added to the results. It’s archaic and wasteful to send out absentee ballots by mail.

Was just watching this on Fox. My son,a libertarian leaning conservative said that he does not think the Feds should be suing states and it is same as suing for obamacare, etc.

I said IMHO the federal jurisdiction is warranted because soldiers are agents of federal government, so feds are ensuring their rights to vote. I don’t think I won the argument with him, anyone have any thots on this? Aren’t most elections run by state election boards?
