Rubio: Stimulus failed, repeal health bill
The Hill ^ | 8/28/2010 | Gautham Nagesh

Posted on 08/28/2010 4:12:27 AM PDT by markomalley

Senate candidate and former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio termed the Recovery Act a failure and called for the repeal of the recently passed healthcare legislation while delivering the weekly Republican address on Saturday.

“Today the American Dream is threatened by out of control politicians in Washington, who think that more government deficit spending is what it takes to grow our economy," Rubio said. "That has never worked anywhere it’s been tried and it won’t work now."

The son of Cuban exiles and darling of the Tea Party movement is currently locked in a tight three-way race to represent Florida in the Senate with Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek and incumbent Gov. Charlie Crist, who dropped out of the Republican primary to run as an independent.

Rubio said Republicans "must prevent the massive tax hikes set to take effect at the end of the year," saying they would be the largest tax increases in history. He also said policy proposals such as cap-and-trade and card check have made employers think twice about adding to their payrolls.

“Like most Americans, Floridians are frustrated with arrogance in Washington. And they have had enough of the failed stimulus, of record deficits, of reckless spending, and of economic policies that are killing jobs," he said.

When you’re right. Rubio is right. I love him pointing out that deficit spending has never got a country out of depression! It’s true and it’s the exact opposite of the “common wisdom.”

I certainly want Rubio to win in Nov but his anti-AZ position and closeness to Myth Romney is very RINO-like and disconcerting. Is he another Juan McAmnesty/Nancy Gramnesty RINO?

‘Termed the Recovery Act a failure’?

The writer of this story needs to quit drinking the socialist kool-aid and trying to cover up for Zero. The so-called ‘stimulus’ has been a COLOSSIAL failure. Rubio is just speaking truth to the evil in DC. The imps & demons in the dinosaur media are beside themselves trying to put a positive spin on all the disaters being caused by the Kenyan squatter in the White House and his team of incompetent, unqualified, boot-licking, azz-kissing buffoons.

Yep, Democrats didn’t even apply their Keynesian theory correctly, it was incompetent and frivolous, no wonder Republicans didn’t bite, from;

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123249646698200289.html

In normal recessions — the argument goes — an increase in discretionary government spending is unnecessary and even counterproductive. But in the event that a recession becomes a depression, a Keynesian stimulus package might work.

Keynesian/Socialism ALWAYS fails.

FDR extended the depression by an additional 8+ years with his Keynesian/Socialism policies.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123249646698200289.html

In virtually all economics classes, including those taught by the many excellent economists on the Obama team, the idea of government spending as an engine for growth is not a popular topic. Yet despite their skepticism of Keynesianism in the classroom, when it comes to public policy, these economists happily endorse a large stimulus package that could bring our deficit to 10% of GDP.

^
The Democrat Economist have know this about Keynesian economic theory, therefore, like the JournaList, let me introduce to you;

the Econolist

Transcript of Pelosi, House Democratic Leaders, and Economists’ Press Conference Following Economic Forum

Speaker Pelosi.
“I am pleased that we had the benefit of the thinking of Dr. Mark Zandi, Dr. Alan Blinder, Bob Kuttner, Heather Boushey, Bill Hambrecht, and Allen Sinai.”

add Christina Romer and Paul Krugman. Did I miss any other Democrat economist?

WH Advisor Jared Bernstein, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, National Economics Council chief Larry Summers and the rest of his economics team

The EconoList, similar to the JournaList...

I thought the reasoning behind Rubio’s comments on the AZ law was that it shouldn’t be necessary if the Feds were doing there job. He said that he understood that they needed to but it wasn’t the right way. I think he was trying to illustrate that the Feds had failed them. At least that’s the way I took it.

...and called for the repeal of the recently passed healthcare legislation

I'd love to see Obamacare repealed. I'd also love to hear Mr. Rubio explain exactly how that is going to happen when the Republicans have little chance of gaining a veto proof majority in Congress.

This is one of the things that concerns me about people like Rubio. He should know full well that repealing Obamacare isn't going to happen until Obama is out of office because the Republicans simply aren't likely to get a veto proof majority. The best we can hope for before 2012 is for the House to defund as much of Obamacare as possible. Every time I hear a politician say things this it makes them sound like they are pandering to the voters, telling them exactly what they want to hear, and ignoring the truth just to get on the gubmint gravy train. I sure hope Rubio doesn't turn out to be another Scott Brown, but with statements like this it appears that is exactly where he is headed.....

Sorry, but your defense of socialism will not fly.

As an MBA with executive level experience in strategic planning for a very large corporation as well as ACTUAL HISTORICAL results, Keynesian/Socialism ALWAYS fails.

Including Krugman, another Keynesian/Socialist, in your post further supports my post.

FDR extended the depression by an additional 8+ years with his Keynesian/Socialism policies.

A number of Economists, such as Thomas Sowell, have written volumes on this subject. The country was showing signs of a modest recovery following the market crash of '29 when FDR was elected. Unemployment didn't go above 10% until FDR started his Keynesian spending policies. After all the spending got rolling unemployment shot well above 10% and stayed there for a decade. In effect, FDR's policies caused a fairly deep recession to turn into the Great Depression. (and FDR is now revered as a Liberal icon) Sound familiar?

For the record, there is no defense of Socialism, it is a quote from the article at the link. I point out the similarity of the Journalist shilling for Democrats, to the Economist shilling for Democrats

Crist and Sink are not an option so Rubio is who I’ll vote for.
He sounds real good BUT early on he did NOT support the Arizona illegals law. That bothers me. And don’t buy the line his folks are pushing that he didn’t support it as it originally was written.
He now supports securing the borders, I just want him to state firmly he is against amnesty.

I hope Rubio’s for real. He seems to be. Regardless, we know Crist is a traitor and we have seen what the modern Democratic party stands for — debt, corruption, bailouts for billionaires and millionaires, gay marriage, and allowing drug lords control of our Mexican border.
