The Oath Keeper - Villain Or Valiant?
Americn Thinker ^ | 8/29/2010 | Jon Watts

Posted on 08/29/2010 2:18:52 PM PDT by Moozle

It has been proposed by various groups and individuals that an organization known as "Oath Keepers" is racist, seditious, hateful, and pernicious.

I'm here to tell you the real story.

I have been a member of Oath Keepers since August 2009. My member number is under 500. There are currently over 10,000 dues paying members, and tens of thousands on their Facebook site. I have seen the inner workings since the early days as the acting Alaska State Chapter President; truly, a view from the inside.

Let's set aside the controversy for a moment, and examine the term "Oath Keeper". What does it really mean?

Webster's dictionary defines an "oath" as "a solemn, usually formal calling upon God or a god to witness to the truth of what one says or to witness that one sincerely intends to do what one says". We might therefore infer that an oath "keeper" sincerely intends to keep their word from the moment of an initial oath forward.

For example, each newly elected member of congress recites this oath:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. (Excerpt- Read Full Story at http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/08/the_oath_keeper_villain_or_val.html

Freepers who have taken the Oath are encouraged to tell their story in the comments. Do freep it if you have time.

We should all thank God for the Oath Keepers who are American Patriots. Not one of us who identify ourselves as Tea Party members and supporters, Oath Keepers, Conservatives, Freepers, Republicans has one thing to explain or apologize for. We owe no one an explanation nor an apology. Case closed. We love our freedom, we love our country, we love our families, and we plan to ensure that we pass our freedom and our heritage on to our children and grandchildren. Anyone who questions this is, in my opinion, an enemy of freedom and an enemy of the USA.

We are at war for our survival against evil. Never forget that.

"The Oath Keeper..."

I fully support the Oath Keepers organization and will back them with whatever they need when they decide to take action.

However, it's been a whole lot of nothing but talk since they came into being. Exactly when are they going to fulfill their oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic? How much more evidence of malfeasance do they need in order to take action? For what are they waiting?

The MSM, politicians and rabid progressive bloggers feel at ease assaulting Oath Keepers, Tea Party members and supporters, conservatives, FReepers, Indpendents, former democrats who have seen the light, and republicans are a substanial number of Americans.

Question. Take the “10 Orders You Will Not Obey” and insert the words “except for Muslims” into each of them and how many would you still obey? How about the words “except for Socialists?”

Ronny

The oathkeepers are NOT a militia, or any kind of subversive or anarchist group. We do not advocate any violence or physical revolutionary actions. We will not start anything or act in any unlawful manner. You will need to look elswhere if that is what you want.

We follow the axiom “reach, teach, and inspire”. Our goal is to make sure ALL people who have taken an oath (active military, military veterans, law enforcement active and retired, and firefighters / EMTs) WILL NOT FOLLOW unlawful orders that subvert our Constitutional rights. The basic precept is simply that one’s oath to defend the constitution (from enemies both foreign and domestic)does not expire upon separation or discharge.....period. Our defense of the Constitution is by way of education.

Understand we are ALL as citizens required to follow the law, but oathkeepers promise to not obey and urge others to not obey any ILLEGAL orders handed down that do not comply with our rights as defined by our Constitution and legally passed laws. Please, be informed, visit the website and understand what we are about.

Now, if the government enacts some illegal and unconstitutional move against the national citizenry, then I am of the mind that most of the members will end up doing the right thing on their OWN joining like minded patriots, but not as part of this organization.

The majority of the Oathkeepers membership are clear minded law abiding citizens who have put their lives on the line at some point in their lives to physically defend the Constitution from foreign enemies, and whose purpose now is to spread the word, not violence, to defend same from domestic enemies.

Do not believe for one second that just because some of us are combat veterans, gun owners, conservatives or believers of the constitution that we are all domestic terrorists as our government believes, ready to do to war against our government......NOTHING could be further from the truth.

2nded, if they didn’t require dues I’d advocate to make membership mandatory for government employees. But I don’t beleive in any mandatory due paying membership. Thats just a form of government subsistences.

But it is a very serous matter, any Government Employee particular those with a gun who don’t take their oath with the top priority of seriousness should not be a government employee peroid.

What good is having an army whether it be for foreign defense or domestic security if they are not loyal to you and your Constitution? Indeed such an army that is not loyal to your constitution is a liability rather then an asset.

Which is why adherence to the Oath is the signal most important aspect of their job. If they don’t do that they should be fired without delay or perhaps even disciplined, depending upon the seriousness of their spesfic infraction.

While I agree with everything in the Oath Keeper oath, I have not joined because I refuse to join Facebook. When I joined the US Navy in 1964 I took an oath to protect and obey the US Constitution. There was no stop date to that oath as far as I know.
