Hartzler spokesman says she didn't mean to say Missouri has lost sailors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 23, 2010) — A recent television interview with congressional candidate Vicky Hartzler by a Kansas City-area television station has led some to question how much Hartzler knows about the military, but campaign spokesman Steve Walsh says the interview put both Hartzler and incumbent U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton in a bad light. “Let’s face it; neither of them came off well,” Walsh said. “The impression you get from watching the Channel 41 report is Vicky Hartzler is suggesting that Missouri somewhere has a naval base, and that is, of course, ridiculous. She is fully aware there is no naval base at Lake of the Ozarks or anywhere else in the state.” Walsh said Hartzler’s intent was to address a national and international reduction in force of the U.S. Navy, not to say that Missouri needs more sailors or naval operations.

But of course many Missourians and Kansans who watch KSHB 41, have joined the Navy. In my opinion, 41 went down the hill when they changed from independent to NBC. They were much better off showing cartons and reruns than trying to be a "news" station.

Well, maybe they are believing the rumors that has floated around the Lake of the Ozarks for years that there is a secret submarine mission taking place in the Lake.

Usually sited after midnight and large consumption of Budweiser and Captain Morgan shots at the Horny Toad.

Well, Kansas used to have a US Navy base... The Olathe Naval Air Station, in Gardner, KS (Just south of the KC Metro area on I-35).

Navy base != on the water. There are a bunch of Naval facilities that are nowhere near water. I think they’ve got one in Nebraska that’s not even an air station.

Vicky's good. Take a look at her facebook page. She has lots of notes and links about her record and policies. She's solid conservative, both social and fiscal. The polls have them about tied with the 34-year incumbent under 50%. It's very winnable. As for the article: There are many members of the navy posted at the military installations in Missouri including at Whiteman Air Force Base. Missouri could be a good place to put a base for naval air support (most fighter pilots are navy, not air force). It would not, of course, be a good place for a shipyard. :)
