The threat of illegal immigration may have been a political flashpoint in the recent Florida primaries, but a new study suggests that fewer undocumented immigrants call the state home.
The analysis by Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, D.C., found that more illegal immigrants have been leaving Florida than have moved in during the past few years. A small percentage have become legalized.
The population of immigrants living illegally in Florida dropped by an estimated 375,000 as the economic downturn worsened from 2007 to 2009, the study said. There were an estimated 675,000 undocumented immigrants in the state in 2009, down from more than a million in 2008.
As such, Florida has the highest decrease in illegal immigration in the country. The population for those who either crossed the border illegally or overstayed their visas dropped nationwide from an estimated peak of 12 million in 2007 to about 11.1 million in 2009.

It’s hurricane season!....They not stoooopid!
way to manipulate the conservative vote.
I want to know how they know this.
You know, I’m seeing a lot of stories like this one. California and AZ media outlets have reported similar stories and I’m wondering if these are meant to take the focus away from the illegal immigrant issue by trying to insinuate we don’t have to do anything since they are leaving on their own.
I’m not buying any of it.
Wonder which state they’ll end up in?
See, Obama is solving our illegal immigration problem. The solution is so simple that I’m surprised it wasn’t tried before; just turn the US into a socialist hellhole with little economic opportunity so that illegals stay home. Sure the drug dealers will still slip in but they’ll leave eventually.
Philadelphia now has a "hands-off" policy when it comes to illegals.
excerpted from The Philadelphia Inquirer, June 27, 2010...
Philadelphia is expected to end the arrangement that permits federal immigration agents to scrutinize the city's computerized list of arrests, including country of origin and other data, deputy mayor for public safety Everett Gillison said Sunday.
Immigrant advocates say the year-old agreement between the city and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service, known as ICE, has resulted in deportation proceedings against immigrants arrested on even minor charges. Under the agreement, ICE agents can routinely access the city's Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System, known as PARS. That agreement is up for renewal on Thursday.
"It is the mayor's view that the PARS agreement should not be extended," said Gillison, speaking at a South Philadelphia church meeting attended by more than 300 immigrants and their supporters.
In a directive he issued a year ago, he barred municipal employees on official business from inquiring about the immigration status of any person, including, but not limited to, victims, witnesses, arrestees and detainees.
Yeah. Sure they have...
Yeah sure, tell me another one daddy.
They say we have fewer illegals in this country, how would they know. You really think they would tell people they were illegal, really.
That’s just crazy.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper has an article today on the number of illegals in Georgia declining. It appears to be JournOlist reporting.
I do think the number of illegals has declined because there are no jobs, particularly construction.
More BS and lies from the Slime Slantinel “newspaper” that is in bankruptcy. Just go off and die. Endless corruption in Broward County where it is printed but they never see anything. The writers are usually recent immigrants or illegals. The stories are so poorly written that half the time you have no clue what happened.
I sometimes read it online sometimes because a relative lives down that way.
This is the spin Obama wants put out so Americans think illegals are leaving. They are not. They get endless free benefits.
It is Obama and Jour-O-List propaganda.
Michael Medved said that kicking out illegals would require unconscionable use of force, which is why we had to give them all citizenship.
And all this time, all we had to do is stop giving them free stuff and they'd leave of their own accord.
Who knew?
All of them
Had a story yesterday about how illegals are leaving the US in general, and how fewer are coming illegally, and how the total number of illegals is dropping.
All exaggerations and BS and propaganda being put out to soften up the citizens to accept amnesty for illegals. I hope few if any fall for it.
“way to manipulate the conservative vote.”
Exactly...act as if the problem has gone away and the next step is amnesty.

ICE seizes $389,000 worth of counterfeit items at South Florida flea markets
MIAMI - More than $389,000 worth of counterfeit merchandise was seized by special agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) during a two-day enforcement operation targeting flea markets in the South Florida area that were suspected of selling counterfeit trademarked goods.
On Aug. 22 and 23, ICE-HSI Commercial Fraud Investigations special agents, and officers from the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), conducted “Operation Fire Sale” at Miami-area flea markets. They seized counterfeit trademarked goods that were being sold by local merchants at numerous booths at the Homestead Bargain Town Flea Market at 24400 Packing House Road in Homestead, Fla. and the Opa Locka/Hialeah Flea Market at 12705 NW 42 Ave. in Miami.
The searches resulted in seizing 28,474 individual items, including counterfeit Adidas shirts and shorts, DVDs, CDs, and knock-off sunglasses by Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Christian Dior. Authorities estimate the collective value of the merchandise seized during the operation to be about $389,710, based upon the items’ suggested retail price if they were legitimate. The largest cache of counterfeits, estimated to be worth nearly $204,000, was CDs confiscated during an Aug. 23 search by ICE special agents at the Homestead Bargain Town Flea Market.
“Retailers who sell counterfeit products are ripping off consumers by selling sub-standard products,” said Anthony Mangione, ICE special agent-in-charge of ICE-HSI in Miami. “Selling counterfeit products undermines the U.S. economy, robs Americans of jobs, stifles American innovation, and promotes crime.”
The ICE-led enforcement action was assisted by the following law enforcement agencies: U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Import Specialist Branch and Seized Property, the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and the Dade County Medical Examiners Photography Unit. Private industry brand security specialists also assisted from the following companies: Adidas, Coty, the Motion Picture Association of America, and the Recording Industry Association of America; two private investigations companies representing over 100 registered trademarks also participated.
ICE-HSI’s participation in the crackdown on counterfeit goods vendors is part of Operation Fire Sale, an agency initiative targeting intellectual property crime in several major cities nationwide, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Philadelphia and Las Vegas. Spearheaded by the ICE-HSI-led National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center), Operation Fire Sale resulted in seizing more than $16 million worth of counterfeit merchandise in those cities last week.
