those plastics are very very thin. I can see how even a slight weight shift could cause a problem. of course, I absolutely hate regular 2ltr bottles. the bottom design causes them to constantly fall over in the fridge.
That would have been a huge pallet of water all right. That would be about 2,000,000 pints, 1,000,000 quarts, 250,000 gallons neglecting packaging weight.
I doubt the grieving family of this poor woman came up with this suit themselves.

Usually suits like this name jointly anybody who might have liability in the matter. I can’t believe Kroger is just getting left out willy nilly.
It definitely comes into play. The new bottles are made of much thinner plastic so they have a lower compressive strength. Unfortunately, they still put the same number of bottles in a pack so it's the same volume and weight of water with weaker bottles. The bottles probably collapsed on one side of the pallet, and the pallet on top slid down and over, right on top of her.

Two related stories appear with the one referenced. In one, security cameras caught the mishap. Keen was checking in a shipment of bottled water when a palette from the shipment fell on her. She was rushed to the hospital immediately after and died five days later. The accident happened in March.
The second story is about Kroger being fined by OSHA for their role in the accident. OSHA began their investigation the same day the accident occurred.
Also, a safety warning. Don’t try to drink the bottle cap, it’s dangerous to your health!

Fell? Really!? I'm reminded of a journalist who recently recalled the World Trade Center's twin towers “falling”, as if Muhammad Ata’s suicide mission had nothing to do with it and that gravity alone was responsible. Nonsense!
Pallets don't just “fall” like Newton's apple or a drop of rain. They require some outside force for them to move. My guess is the woman in question did something to precipitate the pallet's fall on her.

You’re off by three orders of magnitude on the converson of tons to pounds though.
It’s a lot closer to 480 gallons of water.
Two pints in a quart, four quarts in a gallon, 250,000 gallons. 8 x 250,000 = 2,000,000. Maybe Tim Giethner can work it out on his Turbo tax and get a different answer than 2 million pounds, but I'd say that 2 million is the correct answer.
