U.S. Embassy Reaffirms U.S. Respect for Islam (Obama Condemns 1st Amend. Protected Koran Burning)
U.S. Embassy in Kabul ^ | Monday, September 6, 2010

Posted on 09/06/2010 10:20:39 AM PDT by kristinn

The United States government in no way condones such acts of disrespect against the religion of Islam, and is deeply concerned about deliberate attempts to offend members of religious or ethnic groups.

The embassy wants to emphasize that we strongly condemn the offensive messages, which are contrary to U.S. government policy and deeply offensive to Muslims especially during the month of Ramadan.

President Obama made clear in Cairo in his speech on June 4, 2009 that he considers it part of his responsibility as President to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they occur. And during his recent Iftar speech at the White House he said: “Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country.”

Americans from all religious and ethnic backgrounds reject the offensive initiative by this small group in Florida. A great number of American voices are protesting the hurtful statements made by this organization. Numerous interfaith and religious groups in America are actively working to counter this kind of ignorance and misinformation that is offensive to so many people in the U.S. and around the world.

Just a few days ago, President Obama’s Special Envoy to the OIC, Rashad Hussain visited Afghanistan, reaching out to political leaders, religious leaders, students and all citizens of Afghanistan, communicating the important message of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between the U.S. and Muslim communities all around the world.

I suppose feeding a koran to a pig is frowned upon as well?

An infidel just can't have any fun any more.

To be fair to the State Dept, burning Qurans puts Americans abroad (include US military) at increased risk of violence by mad muzzies. It is part of the duty of the President and State Dept to protect Americans elsewhere in the world.

The ire of the mad muzzies is utterly illegitimate, yet Bambi validates it by opening his big stupid mouth on the subject. This increases the risks faced by Americans overseas. If some private citizen burns his own book on his own property then this is not the business of the POTUS. If the President just sticks to his job then mad muzzies will have less incentive to rage and attack. They rage and attack in order to get the POTUS to dance to their tune. When you reward a particular behavior then you get more of it.

one church in FL decides to burn some books and it becomes a US govt policy statement

what Barry should be defending is the right to offend others without being killed for it

Never noticed any WH commentary about Mao on the Christmas tree or crucifixes in urine funded by taxpayer grants

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 11, 2010

Statement by the President on the Occasion of Ramadan

On behalf of the American people, Michelle and I want to extend our best wishes to Muslims in America and around the world. Ramadan Kareem.

Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God. This is a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But Ramadan is also a time of intense devotion and reflection – a time when Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night; when Muslims provide support to others to advance opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere. For all of us must remember that the world we want to build – and the changes that we want to make – must begin in our own hearts, and our own communities.

These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings. Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality. And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country. And today, I want to extend my best wishes to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world – and your families and friends – as you welcome the beginning of Ramadan.

I look forward to hosting an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan here at the White House later this week, and wish you a blessed month.

May God’s peace be upon you.

To be fair to the State Dept, burning Qurans puts Americans abroad (include US military) at increased risk of violence by mad muzzies. It is part of the duty of the President and State Dept to protect Americans elsewhere in the world.

This perfectly describes where the American Federal government has completely failed in its responsibility to Americans and the rest of the population of the planet.

If there was a single male patriot anywhere near the White House, foreign policy would make the following blindingly clear:

Anyone who brings harm to an American anywhere on the planet because of his American allegiance will be executed. Anyone who harbors an individual who causes harm to an American will be executed and their property confiscated and/or incinerated.

Any country harboring or aiding any individual who causes harm to an American citizen will be punished by the thermonuclear destruction of its capital city and/or primary population centers.

Any political organization masquerading as a religion which engages in harm or advocates harm to America or American citizens will have its chief religious leaders executed, and its holy sites sterilized via thermonuclear incineration.

Sincerely,

President Comedian

“Burning a few Korans is a good start.

Tell that to the guys in Afghanistan, fighting not just our enemies, but the propaganda war, that uses idiocy like this to rally them to their cause.

I’m sure this little infantile tantrum will make the new gold star mothers feel better...”

HUH??? you are very VERY wrong here trying to silence opposition to the Muslim take over of our country..

A responsibility to fight negative stereotypes of Muslims is not part of the president's job description.

But, but, it really pisses him off!

Wonder why? :)

The Koran burning protest is none of the federal government's business. The best thing Obama could have done is educate the ummah about the First Amendment while saying he personally disagrees with the Koran burning and how the American system works to prevent religious bloodshed--even when religions offend one another. The same goes for Gen. Petraeus.

Not a peep from Baracka H. Abu Amama when his body Bill Ayers stomping on the American flag!!!

Just because someone has the right to do something, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.

I think burning books held sacred by others is a horrible thing to do. There’s a very large number of folks here who would be rightfully upset over mass burnings of the Bible.

The Golden Rule does still have some legitimate applications, you know.

My my, little was said by the gubmit when sedious muslims burned and stomped the flag on the streets of NYC a few years ago. Selective 1st amendment application. Why not a general... ‘Burn-the-Koran’ day on Sept. 11?

As an example:
