California Regulates Tire Pressure (no joke)
California.gov ^ | 09/06/2010

Link is to the pdf final regulation.

Take your vehicle in for repair, ...

they are required to complete the tire air inspection.

Sure you can decline, but have to either provide proof it was done in the last 30 days or promise to have it done in a week.

I simply push a button on the dash of my car, and viola, there is my tire pressure. And besides that, OnStar sends me an e-mail each month that includes the tire pressure.

Technology already exists and is operating on the highways to read all data on your vehicle - and signal you to pull into a weigh/inspection station is out of compliance.

All they gotta do is calibrate for passenger vehicles too.

OUr every move, our bank accounts, our credit card purchases, monitor your furnace use, water use, what light bulbs you use -

I’m heading back to the woods

I just wrote to my city council positing this as an example of a potential stupid regulation just to show them how stupid some of the current ones are. I wrote, “the scary part would be if you think this is a good idea.”

Let me get this straight, they complain that enforcing immigration laws is too much extar work for law enforcement personnel, but having to check tire pressure isn’t?

“If it wasn’t amended, you get cited for incorrect pressure based on the repair shop’s readings.”

Yep, that's where this is headed. I have OnStar on my truck and get a diagnostics report by email once per month which includes psi on all four tires. So, the technology is available to monitor tire pressure as well as other attributes such as emissions. It's all about the money and controlling other peoples lives.

This crazy reg stems from AB32. Perhaps it will land in the “suspend” category.

Question:

I drive a 1991 Buick.

It,potentially, will keep running for as long as I'll need a car - (I'm officially an antique, myself, this year.)

I would rather keep this car running than get a later model.

Can they ‘check’ my cars tire pressure any way other than actual, hands on?

isn’t this what 0 proposed?

Hell, he said we could stop importing oil if we kept our tires inflated.

I must be overlooking that magic button in my 1996 Explorer. Please tell me where to find it.

Can you just imagine how crazy this is going to be? Every craft car, every street rod, every antique, all lining up once a month, idling in line to get their tire pressures read.

This is so far beyond stupidity, they've simply GOT to know that the result will to be higher fuel consumption, which, IMO, is the plan. It raises revenue for their political benefactors.

This crap reminds me of Wisconsin.. You cannot buy A/C refrigerant for your car unless you are a licensed professional.. no, not talking about the CFC based stuff, I’m talking the current non ozone depleting stuff...

Why?? Its WISCONSIN its freezing cold 6 months of the year, but you know some fool might give himself frostbite handling refrigerant.

REDICULOUS.

I didn’t read it the way you are. Regardless, I was trying to figure out who actually enforces this thing. By reference, the reg took me to the H&S code which says CARB is the state board responsible for enforcment. So, will we now have the Emissions Police?

But... all of this does fall under “CALIFORNIA GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS ACT OF 2006” which would be suspended if Prop 23 passes. Let us hope...

Next action: RESCIND AB32.
