Cuba's Fidel Castro Gives Up on Communism: "The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore"

"The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore," Castro tells an American journalist when asked whether the Cuban economic and political system was worth exporting.

WASHINGTON – Cuba’s Fidel Castro used an interview with a U.S. magazine to urge Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to abandon Holocaust denial and refrain from “slandering” Jews and confess that the Cuban model doesn't work.

Castro, whose recent public pronouncements have been dominated by warnings that a U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran could spark a nuclear war, invited a journalist with The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to Havana to discuss the writer’s recent article on Israel and Iran.

In the first installment of several Atlantic articles on their exchanges, Castro told Goldberg that the Iranian government must understand the consequences of anti-Semitic theology.

...

In the second installment from a series of meetings with Castro, Goldberg says Castro was asked whether the Cuban economic and political system was worth exporting.

"The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore," Castro responded. He didn't expand on the comment.

If they abandon communism and accept lets say, Chinese model, soon they will recover their economy and soon after 50% of hi-tech gadgets in US will be labeled with “Made on Cuba”

And if Obama stays in office Americans will be penetrating Cuba as illegal immigrants....

One of history's greatest ironies is the the USA may be the last refuge for hard core communists.

Many of the Obama comrades who got their Marxist Kenyan into office had Cuban and Che flags in their offices.

Bummer!

“The closest any socialist state ever came to working was probably Yugoslavia.”

I was born there. The only part that worked was the ease with which you could leave.

“In another news item, Michael Moore’s head explodes.”

I’d pay to see that.

LOL. As long as Tito had his army, secret police, and a throng of Western propagandists who pretended it 'worked.'

Tito was probably the most over hyped person of the 20th century just as Obama has the early lead in the 21st.

The Cuban Model wasn’t just communism, it was being funded 110% by the USSR. After the USSR was no longer funding them, things went downhill.

Anybody can grow chickens, it is said. Cuba has an excellant climate for this. Yet they starve. Cuba could produce enough chicken and eggs to meet the needs of the whole western hemisphere. They could dump dead chickens just off the Fla. keys and depend on the ‘’progessives’’ in the RAT party to lie for them.

“The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore,” Castro responded.

The Castro Cuban Revolution was never about improving the lot of the “average” Cuban. It was about the Castro brothers seizure of power. Everything else since that first year of mass execution and loss of middle class, educated, Cubans was focused on maintaining that power.

What caused the “failure” of the “Cuban model”? There was no Cuban model to follow. Cuba's economy was always subsidized by Russia as part of its political and economic war on the US. When Russia's economy collapsed and their political model fell Cuba was left with nothing.

Almost 40 years after the rise of the Castros there had been ZERO improvement in Cuba's economic infrastructure. Ten years later, even the founder and chief architect of the “Cuban model” has to admit it no longer works even for at the very apex of the Cuban society.
