Fox News says it will not cover burning of Quran
Baltimore Sun ^

Posted on 09/09/2010 12:48:50 PM PDT by Blue Turtle

In a bold move that is likely to be much discussed in coming days, Fox News said today that it will not cover the burning of the Quran on Saturday if Pastor Terry Jones follows through on his plan to burn copies of Islam's sacred book.

The proposed book burning by the Florida minister and his congregation has become a topic of heated conversation and coverage with everyone from President Barack Obama to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and two generals weighing in.

My question is why did the USA allow the Saudis to nationalize our oil drilling operations in their country?
Why didn’t we kick their asses?

“The Leftist media will characterize the pastor as being representative of conservative Christians,”

Great points. I’ve seen one printed news story already saying he is pastor of a mainstream Christian Church.

Good for Fox News.

Good or political?

Saudi P:rince, now part owner of Murdoch's News Corp, influences Fox News

Snips:
. Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal now owns a 7 percent stake in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., the parent company of Fox News,

. Alwaleed released a statement blaming the attacks not on the Saudi airline hijackers, but on U.S. policies in the middle east.

. Just months after Alwaleed acquired his first 5.4 percent stake in News Corp., Fox News covered riots in Paris under a banner saying "Muslim riots." Alwaleed allegedly called Murdoch and had him change the banner to say "Civil riots."

. a comment he recently made on a Fox Network morning news show, Fox and Friends, about Saudi Arabian money still financing Al Qaeda, was edited out of the show.

. Alwaleed "has personally donated huge amounts of money to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers." I

Something smells, here. The AP just came out to said that it would not cover the Koran burning. Then hot on its heels, Fox News says the same.

Granted, a big chunk of Fox (5%, second only to Murdock) is now owned by Saudi oil sheik Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who was throwing his weight around the minute he bought it, and has continued to do so, with no protest from Murdock.

In 2002, he said, “Arabs should focus more on penetrating U.S. public opinion as a means to influencing decision-making”.

Rudy Giuliani also turned down $10m offered by the Prince after 9-11, that was seen as a clear example of “blood money”, paid in Islam in exchange for not seeking revenge against a murderer. The Prince has also paid $20m each to Georgetown and Harvard Universities, $500,000 to CAIR, and $27m to the families of Palestinian suicide bomber “martyrs”.

I agree... the media has already given this useless publicity stunt too much attention.

Good for Fox.

The worldwide notoriety and the stirring of this mess, has already been accomplished by Obama and his nut-job media.

Yet burning the Koran is news.

It is?

How so?

It is a manufactured event by a tiny group trying to get publicity. Most publicity stunts are the antithesis of news.

The contract between ARAMCO and the Saudi Government was to expire in 1999, but the Saudis started to stepwise nationalize the company starting in about 1975.

Agreed.

Some of Jones's followers are here on FR, though and they seem to be quite a vile and irrational bunch of people.

More people will see it on youtube than would view it on the alphabet channels anyway - so it really doesn’t matter if fox or ap doesn’t want to cover it - there will be plenty of coverage

And another thing, while I’m ranting -

it wouldn’t have to BE more expensive to drill in America
if the gov’t would get out of the way.

While as an action by a two-bit Fred Phelps wannabe burning a Koran itself isn’t really newsworthy, the fact that the media from far and near are covering every nuance of the story has made it “National” news. I didn’t decide it was, you didn’t. Even the so-called pastor really didn’t. Like Polls, it’s manufactured news, and it has become a national story.
