Protestors Shred the Quran Outside the White House on 9/11 Anniversary

A small group of conservative Christians tore some pages from a Quran in a protest outside the White House today to denounce what they called the "charade of Islam" on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

"Part of why we're doing that, please hear me: the charade that Islam is a peaceful religion must end," said Randall Terry, a leading anti-abortion campaigner, and one of six people who took part in the protest.

Another activist, Andrew Beacham, read out a few Quran passages calling for hatred towards Christians and Jews, and then ripped those pages from an English paperback edition of the Islamic holy book. He carefully put the torn pieces into a plastic bag, in order not to litter, and said: "The only reason I will not burn it at the White House is because to burn anything on the Capitol grounds is a felony." Beacham, who describes himself as a leader of the rightwing conservative Tea Party from Indiana, added: "The Twin Towers were taken down because of the Koran and other religious teachings."

Now they went and did it. According to Obama, they’ve now angered over 1 billion muslims.

Wanna bet the usurper inside the White House was having his own little private ceremony of burning a Bible and the Constitution.

No doubt.

Has our drama queen contingent on FR burst into flames over this one?

This is kinda creepy...

A few curious tourists stopped to watch the huddle outside the White House, while police took down the names of the participants but did not intervene.

Why does Obama need to know the names of the participants in a peaceful exercise of free speech?

Things started here in Louisiana last night...

Heh... outstanding. I hope the Roverand is offered a "celebrity" ride by one of the snootier carnival krewes. Or at least a roast beef debris po-boy from Mother's.

The disturbing thing about this whole affair is that Muslims think that they can control the behavior of all of us, not just our government. If any American doesn’t like their religion, their Quran, their prophet, then all Americans are enemies and subject to jihad. Yet, they are unwilling to take responsibility for the actions of an organized group of Muslims that attacked us on 9-11.

We fought to gain our freedom. I don’t think we will renounce it because they are offended.

I would never do this but...I heard a suggestion the other night that singed pages of the evil book be randomly littered where they will be seen.

I know...and understand.

But this program includes air traffic con-strollers, FAA dispatchers, a few airline pilots (one who almost collided with of the terrorist planes), security issues, military pilots who were patrolling or order to shoot down the planes.

Very interesting, lots I did not know.

We are under siege. We have a muslim president. We just had Rauf demonstrate extortion on behalf of islam.

America needs to shake its head, wake up and smell the napalm.

Try to catch the replay if they have one.

The first panel was even more interesting (not sure when it started or if the FAA, NORAD, controllers were the first panel or not.)

I don’t really see the point of burning the Koran. It fuels the meme of religious intolerance of Christians. I think protesters should read/publicize offensive parts of the Koran aloud or create visuals (huge signs with Koran quotes) so that the truth embarrasses libs. I think alot of people are unaware that the Koran tells its faithful to slay unbelievers on sight and that Allah will not punish them for doing so.
The Koran says to humor and trick unbelievers into believing you want peace until you have regrouped and can slay unbelievers. Intolerant passages and other excerpts of Muslim imams calling for the killing of gays or heretics. Portions of the Koran and cleric speeches advising on the wisdom of wife beating. Burning the book isn’t enough. I understand the desire to do so but according to Petraeus, it won’t help the troops.
I think part of the desire to burn the Koran actually comes about from frustration with Obama and all the MSM posing about the ‘Religion of Peace’. I think those who have been made to feel powerless to defend our country (given that political correctness continues to lie about Islam) want to vent their anger somehow and the fact that Obama disapproves is half the fun. In fact, the questions about Obama’s loyalty may lie in the middle of the desire to burn it.
I think familiarity with the contents of the Koran would do more to galvanize a healthy, hostile response toward propaganda and Islamists more than the burning of the book which will contribute to their victim status claims. CAIR will use pics of that event and the MSM cares about CAIR but not about Americans.
I think audio recordings and visuals of hate speech (Imam speeches) taking place in our own cities and towns (New York) would have been more instructive.

In an age of specious “hate crimes”, the simple act of burning a koran is a courageous act.

(As a bookseller, I do not support destroying books).

As a bibliophile with a large library, I generally agree. However, one Christmas my lib-addled step son gave me a copy of Al Franken’s paperback: “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”

As I handled it, carefully like a dog t***, by the clean end, it made excellent kindling for the Yule log, page-by-page. There are exceptions to many rules. (See `act utilitarianism’.)

I have to say, though, that when I clicked on this link I was hoping to see people tossing Korans into a nice big wood chipper. That would be viscerally satisfying even if I do believe the Koran should be read over a loud speaker rather than burned to strip libs of their ‘cover’ (’racists’ and ROP).
