Krauthammer: Palin’s/DeMint’s endorsements of O’Donnell are destructive, capricious, irresponsible
Hot Air ^ | SEPTEMBER 12, 2010 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Via the Right Scoop. There’s nothing here that you haven’t heard before, but since “true conservatives” are in RINO-stomp mode towards Paul Mirengoff and John McCormack and Jim Geraghty and a bunch of other people who were conservatives in good standing as of, say, four days ago, let’s make sure the stealth liberal known as Charles Krauthammer takes his licks too.

The only part of CK’s monologue that I disagree with is the “capricious” part: I’m sure Palin and DeMint made their endorsements with due deliberation, knowing how much it would please their base. (They certainly took long enough to pull the trigger.) And from a philosophical point of view, endorsing O’Donnell is a win/win/win for them.

If O’Donnell beats Castle and then shocks Coons in November, they’ll get all the credit; if Castle pulls it out and sends O’Donnell packing, they can at least tell their base that they were on the side of the angels; if, as is most likely, O’Donnell beats Castle and then gets steamrolled by Coons, well, the beauty of “true conservatism” is that the highest priority is defeating RINOs, not Democrats.

They won the important fight, and without Castle in the Senate, the GOP brand will remain pure and principled and therefore well positioned for the eventual “true conservative” takeover of Congress. Like the man said, better 30 Marco Rubios than 60 Arlen Specters.

“Then control the field(s). “

No thanks.

I believe that has been tried ad nauseum. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. Kudos to Einstein.

I agree with you. CK is no “stealth liberal” or any liberal at all. He’s a good conservative who gets some things wrong. There are good conservatives here in FR who sometimes get things wrong.

The DE race is one of those times when CK is wrong. He fails to see how really bad Castle is. How really bad the DE GOP is.

Location is everything. I’m in PA. For congress I’m stuck with Mike Fitzpatrick

Not true... you are stuck with what you don't actively fight for! There is a new wind blowing, the GOP and their load of RINOs is seeing its "business as usual" agenda going down in flames all across the country.

Whether the Conservatives pull off huge wins this cycle or not, the ball is now rolling.... rolling right over the entrenched "elite".

Um, have we decided yet?

What to do with so called allies? Sure. Get them to march in line. And, IF there is a Republican majority. And, IF that major it is conservative. They'll be forced to. If not, then we have a RINO major and we're won nothing.

You got that right, although he has been wearing a "conservative robe" for years... given by who? He ticks me off more often that applauding him.

Everyone has to realize that it is not just RINO politicians getting kicked to the curb, a lot of their enablers in the so called "press" are getting thrown down right along side them.

What came first, the Chicken or the Egg?

Deleware politics has been defined by two incumbents, Biden and Castle, since time immemorial. I would submit that these two squishy liberals have won based on their personal appeal and the immense power of incumbency, rather than the appeal of their political philosophy. They have made careers out of being moderate and inoffensive. Certainly, in the case of Biden, it had nothing to do with intelligence or ability.

This does not mean that the electorate of Delaware is squishy and moderate. It just means they have not been sufficiently annoyed with either of these guys to pitch one of them out, until today. Now they will have a real choice.

Frankly, were in Dark Territory here. Nobody knows how Delaware is going to react to a real choice. IMHO, this is the year to find out.

Another point... Given the apparent Delaware pattern of re-electing incumbents, the age of the nominee becomes important. If Castle wins the job, you will have a useless, squishy RINO for six, maybe twelve, years, and Castle will retire with a bigger pension. If O’Donnell wins, we get a solid, reliable Conservative for a generation or more. This is worth taking the risk.

"Christine will be well known in DE by election day November."

I hope she will and I am from New Jersey where we have two sorry excuses for U.S. Senators. But there is no gain calling a Vietnam Vet a TROLL!!! because he believes in a different strategy for winning.

The Vietnam Veterans I know are not John Kerry.

Get them to march in line.

Yeah, that has worked so well in the past, once a conservative is sent there, they are berated and minimized until they "march into line" with the entrenched "elite"... no thanks, a good house cleaning is in order!

Yes, he does slip up and show his elitist side once in a while. He may be a “conservative” as far as beltway TV goes, but he is not conservative as I understand that to mean in Texas.

Ok. You got me. I won’t vote in November.

You don’t mind if I keep going to Tea Party Rallies, down to Washington again for the next march/rally, donating money to Allen West (FL), Christine O’Donnell (DE), others in states where I can’t vote, contacting my current [Murphy] and future [Fitzpatrick] congressman to straighten them out? Would that be okay with you? Please say yes.

I’ve never gotten the elitist vibe from him but I do think that in this case, he’s exhibiting “pragmatic”, inside-the-beltway thinking that’s gotten us in this mess.

CK thinks it’s a given that ObamaCare and other Democratic legislation are here to stay. If we keep electing Republicans in the Castle mold, like he’s encouraging, that’s true.

I just don’t see the long-term benefits of keeping Republicans in our ranks who will work to undermine our freedom. Get rid of who we can today and keep the rest scared. This isn’t a game.
