McDonald's Corp. is the target of a new television commercial set to air in Washington, D.C., Thursday that blames the burger giant for heart disease.
In the commercial, produced by the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a woman weeps over a dead man lying in a morgue. In his hand is a hamburger. At the end, the golden arches appear over his feet, followed by the words, "I was lovin' it," a play on McDonald's longtime ad slogan, "I'm lovin' it." A voiceover says, "High cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attacks. Tonight, make it vegetarian."
PCRM's president, Neal Barnard, was once on the board of the Foundation to Support Animal Protection, now known as the PETA Foundation, which provides accounting, legal and other services to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and other animal-protection groups. A PCRM spokeswoman says the organization has no link to PETA.
"McDonald's is committed to providing balanced menu choices and a variety of options to meet our customers' needs and preferences," said Cindy Goody, director of nutrition for McDonald's.
Scott DeFife, an executive vice president at industry group the National Restaurant Association, called the ad "irresponsible" and said it "attempts to scare consumers into making choices and promotes a limited view of good nutrition."

The group also plans to write to Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty to seek a moratorium on the construction of new fast-food restaurants in the city. In 2008, the Los Angeles City Council passed an ordinance imposing a moratorium that wound up lasting two years on the opening of new fast-food chains in a 32-square-mile area that includes some of the city's lowest-income neighborhoods.

I know vegans with heart troubles, cholesterol issues, and the same odds of dying (1 in 1) as the rest of us.
Do they just see it as one more great social wrong to right with a vast expansion of government authority?
I think we all know the answer to that question.

Carbohydrates are at the root of all chronic disease, and in particular, sugar.
What carbs do is to increase inflammation through numerous modalities. The main one is the proliferation of biofilms in arteries and joints.
Fats, if anything are part of the cure, not in any way part of the cause.
While vegetables are a necessary part of our diet, a vegetarian diet is not desirable at all, especially if you wish your children to be strong and intelligent.

The "group" should read the "communist group" wants total control over the people, as though, we are too stupid to monitor and control out own diets. That group can stuff it! Imagine the fools blaming McDonalds because someone took money out of his wallet and selected something he liked from the menu, as though it is McDonalds fault. The morons should start their own fast food chain!
Let them waste their time and money tilting at windmills. Would it not be great if everyone loved being vegetarian! Myself, I appreciate McDonalds and the varied menu they offer so I can decide what to eat, not some moronic group.
YES...what you said...you should see my husband’s niece who is a “vegetarian”.....very fat...and unhealthily so...at age 22.....she eats way to much sugar and flour....and no meat....course she’s a stupid liberal too.....

Fat free milk is grossly unhealthy.
So are salads that sit in a salad bar all day.
Chicken is cheap, but not as healthy to eat as fish or red meats. Same for turkey. Poltry has to be cooked way beyond the point that it is digestable due to the unhealthy way it is raised.
Lightly cooked meat is more healthy than heavily cooked meat. All cooked foods are harmful to proper digestion.
