My thoughts also. Wonder what the markets will do. although this in and of itself won’t be their primary concern.
But I thought Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society Welfare programs were supposed to alleviate poverty?
Just morbid curiosity, but is poverty in America still defined as a condition of living where the government pays for your education, medicine, doctor visits, emergency room visits, housing, food, etc. and that you may own cars, vcr’s, cell phones (I don't even have one), big screen tv’s (not one of those either)...etc. ????
So, 50% of Obama’s base are the one’s suffering the most from the consequences of his policies. Think these people are going to motivated to go to the voting booths and vote for more of the same. (”We won’t get fooled again.” ~ Pete Townsend)
Fox now has this article up:
Their banners says this: U.S. Poverty Rate Jumps to 14.3 Percent, the Highest Level Since 1994
The article says this:
Number of Americans in poverty jumps to 43.6M; working-age poor at highest level since 1960s

Print Email Share Comments (0) Text Size WASHINGTON The number of people living in poverty has climbed to 14.3 percent of Americans, with the ranks of working-age poor reaching the highest level since at least 1965.
The Census Bureau says that about 43.6 million people, or 1 in 7, were in poverty last year. That’s up from 39.8 million, or 13.2 percent, in 2008.
The number of people lacking health insurance rose from 46.3 million to 50.7 million, due mostly to the loss of employer-provided health insurance during the recession. Congress passed a health overhaul earlier this year to extend coverage to more people.
The statistics released Thursday cover President Barack Obama’s first year in office, when unemployment climbed to 10 percent in the months after the financial meltdown.
The median or midpoint household income was $49,777.
What do you mean saying that? That news is only allowed to be printed when there’s a Republican president. Please retract it and print “poverty rate falls sharply under Obama.”
There. That will make the libs happy. Doesn’t matter if it’s true.
It will still be da white man oppressing the black man even though its Obamma mamba jama farouk’s fault..
This is directly attributable to the MASSIVE number of guns that have been purchased after Obama was elected. Many manufacturers have runs lines 24x7 and still have had to add capacity. One stat I saw was that since Obama was elected, more guns have been sold into the private sector in the US than exist in all armed services IN THE WORLD COMBINED.
Crooks are not unaware of this, hence the drop in major crime.
Spreading the destruction around.
WAKE UP!
So the jobless have turned into the homeless how very sad.
Massive Shame to Obama and the democrats.
It was during the term of GHWBush that the Dems first started bleating about his policies forcing old ladies to eat dog food.
I think we should spread the word about Obama's dog enjoying his vacation while woofing down people food.

In this case the long-term unemployed who have run out of benefits and are still unable to find jobs are probably the cause of the increase.
The governments bragging that new claims for unemployment dropped TO 450 THOUSAND....JUST LAST WEEK!
In an economy where there are few jobs, that’s a catastrophe. It also means that the long-term unemployed have given up.
Deja vu:
“Those Were The Days”
by Lee Adams and Charles Strouse
Boy, the way Glen Miller played. Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days.
Didn’t need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days.
And you know who you were then, girls were girls and men were men.
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent.
FREAKS WERE IN A CIRCUS TENT(Not in control of the US Government). Those were the days.
Take a little Sunday spin, go to watch the Dodgers win.
Have yourself a dandy day that cost you under a fin.
Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song.
This song needs an update.
Obama is truly a disaster.
I don’t know just what went wrong. Those Were The Days.
Whenever I hear talk about ‘poverty this’ and ‘poverty that’ in the US, I get very cynical. I wish I was not that way, but I am. I’ve traveled a bit in my relatively short life and seen what I deem ‘true poverty’, people living in cardboard and tin ‘shacks’, shanty towns, people trying to decide whether to go without food in order to ensure their children will have barely enough to eat, or even considering killing and eating the family pet because they have no money to buy groceries. Then I see ‘US poverty’, people complaining that they can’t ‘afford to live’, yet they have a relatively nice place to live, they have TVs, cars to drive. I’ve seen people wearing thousands of dollars worth of gold jewelry as the same time they decry how horrible their life is. It’s made me a bit jaded with regards to ‘poverty’ in this country. That’s not to say we don’t truly have people in ‘sever poverty’ we do, but I think in general, the US has the ‘richest’, ‘poor people’ in the world.

That doesn’t change the fact that people are doing worse under Obama. That’s the bottom line.
Poverty is whatever the government in its infinite wisdom defines it to be. It is instructive to read details in the 2000 census about how many'poverty stricken' people own houses, cars, satellite TV, air conditioning etc. By moving the $ number up or down, the government can move people in and out of poverty at will. The poverty numbers are rubbish.
