Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2010

Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.

Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.

"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.

"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."

Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.

She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

So the strategy is to fan the embers with a little kindling to re-spark her support power?

Heh....no, Sarah's base of support doesn't need any re-sparking. That bonfire has grown bigger with every passing month, since she was first introduced to the American public.

I would vote for Bachman over Palin, she’s more of a leader.

I know she’s a favorite around here, and that’s fine, but my gut feeling is she cannot win. She has been so demonized and made into such a polarizing figure that her entering the race would energize Democrat voters to vote against her.

She would be much better as head of the NRC - and start in November, clearing that house of it’s corruption and deadweight, and rally the voters and other politicians into SUPPORT, which is what is most needed in 2012. ‘12 is going to be the fight of the millenium, and I just don’t see her winning. ‘12 is not just the Presidency, it’s also a lot of Senators who are sitting this one out, like Pelosi.

Granted, I don’t see anyone else out there yet, but there’s time.

I will state, however, with full conviction, that if the RNC is stupid and sleazy enough to run McCain, I will vote for her in a heartbeat as an independant, and urge everyone I know to do the same, and will campaign with her against McCain.

My fears of Palin are mostly because of her history, and how the left reacts - she’s our Hillary. But McCain is just sleazy and dishonest and scum, and if the RNC supports another Presidential run, I will never vote for or acknowledge the RNC as long as the current crop of politicians running it are still there.

I just have a really bad feeling .. but I guess the bottom line is that anyone who would actually restore sanity to our government will be trashed by the msm socialists regardless.

I sympathize with your "bad feeling"..and you are right about the media trashing ANY conservative who will kill dead the socialist agenda...my point is Sarah has already proven she can take it...the governorship thing was purely strategic...it's obvious she can handle the attacks...as a free agent she was able to financially bulk up and they can't bury her in frivolous lawsuits. She passed the baton to a suitable replacement , and went on to where she could be most effective.

You know, I don't think Sarah even looks at it like that. She's just doing the job she's been called for. That's how I think she sees it.

She doesn't need a title or an office to fight for what's right, but the fact that she's so effective, and so relentless in the battle, automatically positions her to be chosen by her fellows for elective office.

Just as in business, those who take responsibility to get things done, usually wind up with the jobs to match. She's kicking more ass than anyone else on the block, so the people are likely to simply choose her as the Ass Kicker In Chief. Pretty simple, really.

I got news for you. Anybody the GOP nominates will be demonized and called a polarizing figure. Remember how "straight talk express" Juan McCain was transformed from being a media darling until he locked up the nomination into a third term for George Bush by the time September 2008 rolled around?

Our focus must be on the candidates and elections in this November race,

You may have a point. Since most would be overcome with excitement if she announced to run. So excited, they might simply forget to vote in November. What's that about walking backwards, and chewing bubble gum at the same time? Naysayers claim you can't do it.

The MSM vultures have already nit picked at Sarah until her bones have been exposed. So I don't see any cause for concern there. Yet, I can see where we might have to contend with the RINOs, who are busy right now planning a choice for us, which they intend to shove- up...you know where.

It is my contention by announcing now, she could upstage their choice for us, and, perhaps, shut them down, and, shut them up.

That's the biggest piece of BS I have heard in a very long time. Where do you guys get off coming up with this garbage anyways?

Agreed, Bachmann is head and shoulders above Palin in my opinion. Palin is great, I like her, but she is not presidential material in my mind. She is no Reagan, certainly...for those that dare to make a comparison.

The campaign is starting this winter, or right after the November elections.
At this NOBODY better suited to the job has come forward.

Palin may be trying to give the rest of the Republicans a chance to put up somebody who is not a RINO and who is more electable than her. But presently there are no other better choices.

So Palin is keeping her “campaign” in as high a gear as she can without actually declaring — yet.

So the rest of you who think there should be a better candidate better come up with him or her darn soon. Next summer will be too late.

Welcome Back, Dad

I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.

~Michael Reagan, chairman of the Reagan Foundation, conservative radio talk show host and son of President Ronald Reagan
