At a time when gays have been gaining victories across the country, the Republican Party in Montana still wants to make homosexuality illegal.
The party adopted an official platform in June that keeps a long-held position in support of making homosexual acts illegal, a policy adopted after the Montana Supreme Court struck down such laws in 1997.
The fact that it's still the official party policy more than 12 years later, despite a tidal shift in public attitudes since then and the party's own pledge of support for individual freedoms, has exasperated some GOP members.
"I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" state Sen. John Brueggeman, R-Polson, said last week. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."
Gay rights have been rapidly advancing nationwide since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy law in 2003's Lawrence v. Texas decision. Gay marriage is now allowed in five states and Washington, D.C., a federal court recently ruled the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy unconstitutional, and even a conservative tea party group in Montana ousted its president over an anti-gay exchange in Facebook.
But going against the grain is the Montana GOP statement, which falls under the "Crime" section of the GOP platform. It states: "We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."

certainly not at elementary level, but having taught for many years, homosexuality does become an issue for some at puberty
So it's okay to teach them "gay is good" in middle school and high school because it becomes an "issue for some at puberty" - IOW, so when they are confused, nice homosexual counselors can tell them "Yes, you are gay, you can't change, and here's some websites to help you get started."

It's about making homosexual acts illegal, as they were in many or most states before the TX vs Lawrence bad decision by SCOTUS, taking more power away that should be states'. It's all about making such acts illegal so they have to stay in the dark corners and not promoted in schools or in public. And so those that practice such acts have no legal basis for special "rights".

Yes indeed, there were several FR articles about this not long ago. I think it was in Helena, Montana - the school board wants to teach kids K-12 that “gay is good” and even the mechanics of anal sex in grade school.

If the poster told us which school district then we might have a freeper in that area and this poster knows they should not be talking about homosexuality in the classroom even if they are asked.
History, English, Math, etc are all subject taught in schools now if a kid did ask then that teacher should point out that they are not here for that, it is a parents job on issues like this.
Many teachers hope parents are too ignorant to what their kids are being taught so the can push an agenda with kids.
That is why I go to the school many times , talk to my kids every night about what they do, did, told at school etc.
If one of them ever came home and said a teacher was talking about homosexuality or even hinted at it then I guarantee I’d be going after that teachers job as many other parents here would.
Thankfully I have talked to many teacher here and they all agree with us

It is WHAT you stand for as it pertains to homosexuals (please, stop calling them "gay"; the left hi-jacked that word. there is NOTHING happy in the homosexual lifestyle when you start getting into their domestic violence; but that is a topic for another thread). If you can grasp what you have read so far, conservatives have no want or need to peer into anyone's home let alone bedroom. What we are fighting is the homosexual agenda when it LEAVES their home's and is invading our space in the public venue, the classroom, the special rights, the special funding..special..special..special.
