Early Female Puberty Linked To Absent Biological Father
Medical News Today ^ | 19 September 2010 | Christian Nordqvist

A girl whose biological father does not live in her household has a higher chance of entering puberty earlier than her peers, say researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, in an article published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The investigators report that the absence of a biological father in the household predicted earlier pubic hair and breast development - the association was only detected in higher income families.

Even after such factors as the girl's bodyweight were considered, the findings still held, the authors wrote.

Julianna Deardorff, UC Berkeley assistant professor of maternal and child health, and lead study author, said:

"The age at which girls are reaching puberty has been trending downward in recent decades, but much of the attention has focused on increased body weight as the primary culprit. While overweight and obesity alter the timing of girls' puberty, those factors don't explain all of the variance in pubertal timing. The results from our study suggest that familial and contextual factors - independent of body mass index - have an important effect on girls' pubertal timing."

The results came from the Cohort study of CYGNET (Young Girls' Nutrition, Environment and Transitions) - a project that looked at patterns of health (epidemiologic project) lead by Lawrence Kushi, associate director of etiology and prevention research at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research.

I’ll bet ninety per cent of society’s problems can be “Linked To Absent Biological Father(s).”

Good grief....Wonder how much they got for this study...and I’ll bet the answers were in before the study began.

Agreed.Gangs....drug use....out-of-wedlock babies (and abortions)....welfare.I'll bet it's at *least* ninety percent.

“The researchers wonder whether the girls in higher income without the biological father around might be exposed to more artificial light, which is known to speed up puberty in animal experiments. They also wondered whether African American girls might be more exposed to specific beauty products, such as hair straighteners, which have estrogenic properties that could have an impact on when puberty occurs”

Sounds like they have NO idea what is going on and I would suggest a massive Federal Grant to resolve this earth shattering issue. NOW.

My instinct puts the cause of early puberty on the hormones in meat - not absentee fathers. Many problems occur from families not having a responsible father in the household, but early puberty is not one of the problems.

The absent father has been, since the 60's,part of the RAT Party's master plan to financially enslave a huge portion of our population, thus ensuring that they vote RAT in perpetuity. This plan has obviously worked splendidly.IMO,this report is a slam of our "no fathers needed" society.A subtle slam, surely but a slam nevertheless.

Just to add another thought/theory ...

How about the yearning for a personal man in her life triggers a growth/maturation element that initiates puberty.

The study doesn’t describe the stability of the household. My kids are adopted from birth, but I am not the biological father. Nonetheless the household is extremely stable, and has been throughout their lives.

My reading of the news report suggests that it is income coupled with absence of a father. That would infer that there is a direct competition for men between the mother and daughter when Government isn’t replacing the absent daddy.

Lots of implications there.

I understand that females living together tend to menstruate at the same time. Could this study indicate some similar phenomena that has a biological basis?

I knew that years ago. I have always said that the girls in high school were better looking then when I was there. Pffft

Income is most likely the cause. Call me a Darwinist, but early puberty jibes with what we unconsciously think of as good times. If the living is agreeable, then the environment is propitious for bringing forth more kids into the world.

I should qualify what I'm saying more explicitly. I'm not talking about wealth, which tends to go with responsibilites that sometimes frazzle. By "good times," I mean conditions that our animal side interprets as a good environment for bringing kids into the world. Resource security plus satiety seems to have more to do with it than raw wealth.

I can understand this. If you look around at nature, you'll see each heard, flock, etc. has their dominate male. Maybe if the dominant male is missing, the females in the "herd" develop sooner in order to lure a new one or potentially breed one from another "herd." It would have to do with the survival of the species. A male is necessary for reproduction to take place.

Nature has laws. When those laws are abandoned, nature attempts to repair them - or totally destroys the defective "herd" so the problem doesn't spread.

I think they know exactly what is going on, and are trying to avoid saying it. When Lyndon Johnson and his fellow Sons of Satan passed all that legislation in the 1960’s and replaced Daddy with a welfare check, there were a lot of unintended consequences. This is just one of them.

I didn’t see that the study controlled for race. Blacks tend to enter puberty slightly earlier than whites and Asians. Blacks also have a higher incidence of the biological father being absent. Correlation is not causation (for any of this).
