The Tea Party victories of last week have clearly revealed the movement for what it actually is: not a tantrum, not a voter mutiny, not a short-term insurrection, but something never actually seen before in this country -- it is a counter-revolution.
A lot of attention is being paid to the candidates and their chances. Carl Paladino will have an uphill battle in New York, divided as it is between an ultraliberal NYC and environs, and Mohawk Valley and adjacent mountain regions, in which the population has been reduced to a peasantry doing what they're told and voting the way they're supposed to. (This explains the election of Hillary, if you were wondering.) So says this old Utica boy, and I have my doubts that Paladino can overcome such a level of stasis. As for Christine O'Donnell, I can't do better than Peter Wehner's comments here. O'Donnell has aroused a lot of enthusiasm in the past few days, but whether that will translate into votes in one of the most liberal states in the Union remains to be seen. Clearly, she is the most vulnerable conservative candidate in this election cycle. That said, there's one thing that can't be denied: she ain't Mike Castle.
But such speculation, I think, misses the point, which is this: the Tea Party tsunami is knocking down every obstacle in its way, no matter if it's Republican or Democrat. If there were Whigs or Ghibellines running, they'd be dropping too. The Tea Parties are a political phenomenon the likes of which we have not seen in our lifetimes, one that occurs once every century or so. It is exhilarating to witness.

In marxism, counter-revolution is the number one bugaboo. Right up there with imperialist running dogs.
Recall Drudge reporting today, that the Obama kremlin is considering, going after the Tea Party movement.
The author is correct, there has never before been counter-revolution in America. Because marxism has never established itself here (before now).
“Because marxism has never established itself here (before now).”
It is good that you are using the right term “MARXIST”.
I no longer refer to the left any other way.
Liberal and Progressive are old terms for Marxist lite.
Obama,,Tear down these walls.
MAYBE NOT!
For what it's worth, I think what I saw does not bode well for Mr. Kind.
“It’s no longer a matter of counting seats, making compromises, and hustling deals; it is a matter of smashing a rotten, corrupt, and enervated system based on an errant and repellent view of human nature and replacing it with something perhaps not perfect, but at least in tune with our constitutional traditions, the political nature of this country’s people, and the century we live in. The people are leading, and the politicians will follow — or they will go to the wall.”
This is a great article! November cannot come soon enough.
Now that's a bumper sticker.
What does this loon think the Revolutionary War was?? The only difference between the First Revolutionary War and the now-occuring Second Revolutionary War is that in the late version, there is a higher possibility of using non-violent means......although the colonists tried all of those before resorting to arms in the original.
...”At last, we have the opportunity to tear away the dead hand of collectivist ideology imposed during the ‘30s. We’ve heard a lot lately about the “decline” of America, of our “diminished status,” our “lowered expectations.” This country isn’t in decline — it’s being held back. Throw off the restraints, and we will astonish the world”...
The oppression has been recognized and the causes isolated and peace-loving, freedom-loving Americans are taking a stand against the developing Marxist state before a true dictatorship is established. Thank God for the Tea Party movement.
I think if the Tea Party revolution had not happened, there would have been a lot of marxist blood in the streets.
...the Tea Party counter-revolution ...
No, the Tea Party is a restoration of the original revolution. It seeks to restore the rule of law, the constitution, and limited government. This movement has utmost reverence for Adams, Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Burke, Franklin... and Reagan.
Though the New Deal did nothing to ease the Depression...
The new deal and everything after it, up to and including -24bama, is the counter-revolution, seeking to move to a rule of men, a living constitution which includes international whims of law, and big UN-like government. These folks have reverence for Marx, Lenin, Che, Mao, Stalin and Castro (the Castro of the 50's).
Few folks -- young/old, educated or not, northern or southern -- know what Marxism or a Marxist actually is. Everyone understands Communism/Communist.
Identify the enemy in such a way that ALL the people understand who, and what ideology, we are fighting.
“dirty commies” ~ that’s good enough for that crowd. No capital letters even!
The title of this article is the reason the Marxists will try to incite violence against it... all Marxist/communist ideology warns of the backlash against its goals, and teaches that violence is the only way to put it down.
The original revolution was fought to throw off oppressive, centralized power that was distant and unrepresentative of the will of the people.
Then what could be called the second revolution took place, in 1787, when the Philly delegates, who were sent to amend the Articles of Confederation to include taxing power and power to regulate trade, instead created a consolidated, centralized government--The Constitution.
Of course we can see, with 200-plus years of historical evidence, that the Constitution contains loopholes that render the notion of limited power nugatory. It would take several constitutional amendments to fix the inherent flaws in the system, and undo the centuries of accrued power.
Anyway, the point is you can't conflate the Spirit of 76 with the creation of the Constitution. Some would say, and some did at the time, that the Constitution turned the spirit of 76 on its head:
The American spirit has fled from hence: it has gone to regions where it has never been expected; it has gone to the people of France, in search of a splendid government a strong, energetic government. Shall we imitate the example of those nations who have gone from a simple to a splendid government? Are those nations more worthy of our imitation? What can make an adequate satisfaction to them for the loss they have suffered in attaining such a government for the loss of their liberty? If we admit this consolidated government, it will be because we like a great, splendid one. Some way or other we must be a great and mighty empire; we must have an army, and a navy, and a number of things. When the American spirit was in its youth, the language of America was different: liberty, sir, was then the primary object. We are descended from a people whose government was founded on liberty: our glorious forefathers of Great Britain made liberty the foundation {54} of every thing. That country is become a great, mighty, and splendid nation; not because their government is strong and energetic, but, sir, because liberty is its direct end and foundation. We drew the spirit of liberty from our British ancestors: by that spirit we have triumphed over every difficulty. But now, sir, the American spirit, assisted by the ropes and chains of consolidation, is about to convert this country into a powerful and mighty empire. If you make the citizens of this country agree to become the subjects of one great consolidated empire of America, your government will not have sufficient energy to keep them together. Such a government is incompatible with the genius of republicanism. There will be no checks, no real balances, in this government. What can avail your specious, imaginary balances, your rope-dancing, chain-rattling, ridiculous ideal checks and contrivances?Patrick Henry, June 5th, 1788
Another excellent read by J.R. Dunn. Thanks for posting!
With respect, I neither need nor expect any help from Southside Barry.
One of the ways that big media has succeeded in diminishing the TEA party movement is by not using the capital letters. As more and more Americans become aware that something big is afoot, it would be so much more effective if the Taxed Enough Already supporters could always use and read capital letters.

Convey more gravitas!
Also, the upwelling of conservative voters in the 1990s included many people concerned about “traditional values,” aka religious beliefs. So these “fanatics” were insulted by the coastal elites. This time the uprising may include people who also want to reclaim some semblance of traditional values, but the main push is against the willful bankrupting of our country. Moral issues are secondary this time, so elite media have to find other ways to minimize the upwelling of emotion from American voters and taxpayers.
