Haley campaign responds to Sheheen’s negative TV ad

Liberal trial lawyer has run out of things to say about his vision for S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Haley for Governor campaign manager Tim Pearson today released the following statement in response to Vince Sheheen’s new negative TV ad:

Pearson said, “With six weeks left in this race, and trailing badly in the polls, liberal trial lawyer Vince Sheheen has run out of things to say about his own vision for South Carolina, so he’s decided to go negative on Nikki Haley.

“Not only are Senator Sheheen’s negative personal attacks against Nikki off base, but they are obviously designed to distract voters from his own Columbia insider record of supporting one taxpayer rip-off after another.

“We are confident that South Carolinians will reject Vince Sheheen’s negative campaign and his liberal political views.”

Background on false claims in Sheheen TV ad:

Nikki did not “hide” any contract. The state ethics commission says this contract did not have to be disclosed, and Nikki voluntarily disclosed it anyway. (The Charlotte Observer, 6/22/2010)

Vince Sheheen continues to hide his trial lawyer clients. (The State, 9/7/2010)

Nikki does not “want to put a tax on our groceries.” She will “enact comprehensive tax reform that eliminates business income taxes, particularly the corporate income tax, and simplifies the state’s tax system.” (Charleston Post and Courier, 8/12/2010). She will “evaluate every tax and fee in South Carolina to determine the effectiveness of each - proposing truly comprehensive tax reform that makes taxes lower, fairer and flatter.” (“Less Talk. More Jobs.”, 8/11/2010) Only in that context of comprehensive tax reform, that is an overall tax cut, has Nikki Haley said she is willing to consider an increase in the grocery tax.

Vince Sheheen has voted repeatedly for higher taxes in Columbia, he has voted against grocery tax relief (H. 4450, 2006) and said he would rely on tax increases to solve the current budget crisis (Associated Press, 4/23/2010).

Nikki has never failed to pay her own taxes. She has been fined for late payment, but has always paid every dime of tax she has owed. (Associated Press, 8/4/2010)

I never knew liberals had a problem with taxes. Classic case of a liberal trying to look conservative close to an election. Does anyone believe this guy at this point? He has no credibility left and is trailing 17 points in the polls.

One of the things I find so endearing about liberals is they will cheat on paying their taxes to the extent they believe they can get away with. All the while pressing the argument that we don’t pay enough taxes. My only advice to conservatives is tell the truth about who you are, what you believe in and what you will try to accomplish, and don’t yield to corruption. If we do this our nation has a chance for rebirth.
