IF you lived in Wisconsin, would you vote for Tom Barrett (champion of the Train, Democrat) or Scott Walker (opponent of the Train, Republican.)
If Walker doesn't purge the bigots on his staff, I'd have to vote for Barrett.

Thanks for answering honestly, but that one answer proves to me that you are NOT a true Freeper.

Since I have followed the Walker campaign for years, and I don't know what you could possibly be referring too, could you please give specifics to the "bigots" on Walkers campaign?

I signed-up on this forum 3 years before you did.
True Freepers aren't the mindless GOP drones that you apparently think they are.

No.

Anybody familiar with this race in Wisconsin already knows about this campaign controversey.

I have better things to do than play along with your disingenuous replies.

Since 9/11/2001, I have flown exactly once commercially and thanks to those TSA fools, I have no intention of flying again. Prior to 9/11 I flew a lot, but when we started this PC screening nonsense to keep from offending Muslims, that was it. No more flying.

I have traveled extensively on AMTRAK. It is nice to have the ability to move about and have a very comfortable seat in coach as opposed to the made-for-gnomes high density seating on your typical commercial jet. The problems with AMTRAK are: 1)they are always using several other companies’ right-of-way; 2) freight trains always have priority over AMTRAK trains; 3) the actual speed over the rails as opposed to interstate highways is often slower; 4) the frequent stops in small towns because AMTRAK must serve them as well as larger population centers.

On the plus side, AMTRAK does not have the stupid TSA screeners (yet); on the negative side, the 36+ hour trans continental legs seem to go on and on. The problem for me is the nearest AMTRAK station is Chicago and there are only five buses a day from Rockford to make the scheduled departures. At best, the connection is seamless if there are no delays en route. However, holdups on either end mean long layovers at the Chicago station. If the train is late and you miss the last bus, you will be looking at a 12 hour wait before the next bus.

Lately, I have been doing a lot more driving. The interstate highways are there and the cruise control works very well. I do not need a rental at my destination and I can take breaks any place I want along the way.

If there was something like a high speed rail service between the large metro areas that did not use the same rails as the freight trains, that would be super.

If we could build a high speed Mag Lev monorail above the railroad tracks, that would solve many problems. This is all smoke and dreams. The bottom line is that freight pays for the railroad profits and passenger service is a relic of the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. For passenger service, you need a service that is efficient, fast, of moderate cost, and connects major population hubs. No one in their right mind, with the regulatory climate in the U.S., would even consider such risk. Forget Uncle Sugar -- because he is broke -- along with all of us peasants in ‘fly-over country,’

High Speed Rail in the US does not make economic sense.

If you want to cut our usage of oil, Willie, then how about pushing vanpools (micro-transit) and hybrids? They use a LOT less oil than your precious trains.

Trains do not make economic sense, nor do they make energy/resource sense. They make no sense in the US. Only a senseless person would keep pushing them...

Is that you, Willie?

Yes Willie is serious, and he also says we don’t have to pay for the cost of building these systems. We just have to pay the interest on the loans.

The argument was odd. Does the food industry band together to keep restaurants from opening? No, they benefit from it. If this is such a financial boon some rail company would be busting down the doors to build it.

“If this is such a financial boon some rail company would be busting down the doors to build it.”

They have, that is why there are train systems in major cities in the US. Well anything is that is more than say 20 years old. Newer systems are all built on hope and change.

Which one is it this time, Willie?

Whenever someone disagrees with you, we see the same tired attempts at an argument.

1 - Race Card. If you don’t agree with his imbecile AMTRAK boondoggles you’re an antiurban racist.

2 - “Shut up, Noob!” I’ve seen him use this within the last four months against a FReeper with a 2003 sign up date.

3 - “I’ve posted more articles than you!” This is reminiscent of the elephant arguing it is more intelligent than the dolphin because it produces a higher volume of excrement. To be fair, Willie certainly posts a lot of crap.

4 - The “Teresa Heinz Kerry.” When John Kerry ran for the presidency, Teresa argued that if you disagreed with her husband’s health care plan you were “stupid.” Similarly, Willie says you’re stupid if you don’t like railroad boondoggles.

5 - Baloney. Oddly enough, this is the closest thing Willie has to a coherent argument.

Hey Willie, how is that VDARE thing working for you?

Rail transit will never work there...

In Willie's Communist America it will work and you will like it.

Post #43 from gitmo to Willie Green -

If it’s such a sure thing, why hasn’t some private company done it?

Post #45 from Willie Green to gitmo -

Because the Airline, Oil, Freight Railroad and Highway Industries unite to prevent the market competition.

Post #47 from gitmo to Willie Green -

You’re serious?

Post #50 from Willie Green to gitmo -

Yes.

Willie makes Dane look sane.

Actually, in many smaller communities where local restaurant owners have greater influence over local ordinances, they are the ones behind local prohibition of "street food" vendors whose lower overhead would undermine revenues of the more permanent Main Street establishments. This is less of a problem in larger cities where there is a much larger market of potential customers.

On a much broader, national scope, it is naive and foolish to suggest that Industry Lobbyists don't influence national legislation fo erect barriers to competition that favor the Special Interests of their own industry.
