ObamaCare Flatlines: ObamaCare Taxes Home Sales - Clobbers Middle-Class Americans

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes,” President Obama, September 12, 2008

Beginning January 1, 2013, ObamaCare imposes a 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income, including the sale of single family homes, townhouses, co-ops, condominiums, and even rental income.

In February 2010, 5.02 million homes were sold, according to the National Association of Realtors. On any given day, the sale of a house, townhome, condominium, co-op, or income from a rental property can push middle-income families over the $250,000 threshold and slam them with a new tax they can’t afford.

This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income. This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare. The National Association of Realtors called this new Medicare tax on unearned income “destructive” and “ill-advised” and warned it would hurt job creation.

That’s it, we will have “medical doctors” who cannot tell a femur from a lemur!
According to one Freeper we already have a university in this country producing “electrical engineers” who don’t know what a diode is, that is equivalent to a dairy farmer who doesn’t recognize a cow.

MFJ is “married filing jointly” tax status.

There is tax indeed in Obamacare, and it will apply also to the house sales, but only for the portion that is taxable. In other words, for married couple filing taxes jointly, the first $500k in gains is not subject to the new tax. For single filer, the limit is $250k.

So, if you bought a $200k house and now sell it for $500k as a single filer, the new tax applies to the $50k portion of the profit. For a married filing jointly, the tax for $200k house is applied only if the price exceeds $700k.

Judging from the story of the prodigal son, some do try to depart, only to get a good beating from the school of hard knocks.

And this tax piles on after you have paid a ton to make your home green as a federally required condition of the sale.

Why is it when someone brings some more information to the discussion, some of the people on this forum always accuse them of trolling? Come on, if you don’t have a better argument than that, you are no better than the DU dummies.

$3800 tax on the sale of your $100k house. The house you have paid property taxes on ever since you bought it. The government protection racket overshadows the mafia becaused they have the law on their side.

A tax is a tax. I have been paying property taxes on MY PROPERTY since I bought the house. Now I get equity and decide I may want to sell so I can upgrade, or downsize to save some money, and I get gouged again, on TOP of capital gains.
And to WHO’s benefit???

***Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.***

And in a few years after Obamainflation has kicked in, money devalued and everyone will be making about $500,000 a year, but not able to buy any more than a person earning $50,000 today, we all will be taxed a the “new” earnings rate as we all will be making over $250,000.

Remember the 10 cent cola of the 1950s? No tax was paid on it. Today that same cola is over $1.35 and you do pay tax on it.

“this is bs. House sales gains at least up to 500k for mfj are not subject to any obamacare tax. No need to make up things.”

This is correct. I have read that part of the bill.

You're confusing 2 different thresholds in the Snopes explanation. There's a taxable income threshold of $250k for married-filing jointly ($125k for single filers). But there's also a real estate capital gains threshold ... an exemption, actually. That's the one that goes up to $500k for mfj ($250k for singles).

Obamacare needs to be fought on the facts, not by spreading internet urban legends.

Easily rebutted, it makes the GOP look like fools for misreading the law in the way it was enacted.

Beck was talking about 0bama holding some conference call with clergy and telling all of those religious leaders that “the debate is over” and “now you all need to go out to your people and inform/educate them to understand that this Health Care plan is GOOD for them.”

Either that didn’t work or he just hasn’t co-opted enough of society by the propaganda machine as yet to make enough difference.

THIS IS ALL GOOD FOR YOU!!!

SO SHUT THE HELL UP...

in fact according to 0bama, “YOU WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD ALL BE THANKING ME?!!”

All of this must be repealed. It must not stand.

Agreed. Here is a radical idea: Adhere to the Constitution.

I’ve learned to not even attempt to confuse these people with facts. My cousin is constantly saying unemployment was higher under Bush. Those people are mentally challenged and you’re wasting your time trying to argue with them.

If ObamaCare is not repealed by a Republican Congress...

Care to explain, in detail, how that repeal will work?

Since we all know nobama will veto any attempt to repeal or radically modify nobamacare, I'm very interested in your thoughts on how we will achieve the two-thirds majority necessary to override a presidential veto.

More thoughts.
