'Credible But Not Specific' Threat of New Terrorist Attack (It's not October yet, fool!)

US and European officials said Tuesday they have detected a plot to carry out a major, coordinated series of new terror attacks in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and possibly the United States.

A senior US official said that while there is a "credible" threat, no specific time or place is known. President Obama has been briefed about the threat, say senior US officials.

Intelligence and law enforcement authorities in the US and Europe said the threat information is based on the interrogation of a suspected German terrorist allegedly captured on his way to Europe in late summer and now being held at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

US law enforcement officials say they have been told the terrorists were planning a series of "Mumbai-style" commando raids on what were termed "economic or soft" targets in the countries.

In testimony before Congress last week, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said, "We are all seeing increased activity by a more diverse set of groups and a more diverse set of threats."

Good point Willy. Over the last couple of years I reduced my freeping, but it would be hard at this point to turn me back into a sheep.

Trucks being inspected:
Any good trucker worth his salt will (1)hear about it on the radio and (2) go around via back roads, etc. Fortunately, some raghead won't know this!

Same thoughts here. Saw this scenario developing several years back, and had it confirmed from a few friends that are more in the know than I. I switched to a 10mm (from a 45)due to flatter trajectory and actually practice a lot at 100 meters as well as 25,50 etc. Fellow Freepers, follow suit(not caliber, but concept). Practice, practice, practice. Follow all laws-get a CC permit. We are the good guys, remember? Start carrying a spare mag as a normal routine. It’s a pain, but well worth it. I like compact pieces, nice ,convenient, lighter, etc. But now that fall is here, back to full size pieces...better range.

Oh, great... This was not smart...It is time for the German nation to climb up out of its own arschloch and bekommen a world leader... Relying on The Failed Obama Administration© is a non-starter...

Wow, I doubt I can see a target at 100 meters. In fact, these days due to age, it's very tough for me to see my front sight in sharp relief. That's one reason I have discovered the true value of a CT Lasergrip and I'm currently adding one of those to every carry gun I own for which they're available. LOL I switched from a 9mm to a 45 as soon as I lost my excess weight. Back in June of 2009 I had gastric bypass surgery and so far I have lost 140 pounds, leaving me at a nice comfy 165. I find it is much easier to ccw and do so with a more credible caliber than a 9mm. So I find myself back with a 45.

I would keep in mind the fact that the FBI originally dropped the 9mm and went with a 10mm but dropped it due to the fact it has a brutal recoil and they discovered that during extended firing in training, the recoil was battering the slides of the weapon they chose (S&W) into having micro-cracks and the smaller agents were unable to handle the increased recoil as well as the increase in trigger reach. IIRC there was also an issue with the specific model of Smith that made it unreliable. Anyway, the FBI switched to the lesser known 40 (shorty-forty) and later the specialty teams like HRT went back to a 45. Full circle.

I always carry a reload, whether it's a 5 shot speedloader when I pocket carry my S&W M642 or a spare mag for my H&K P30 9mm (15rd capacity)whether it's high cap or not, I always carry a reload! Since I constantly seem to be wearing cargo pants, I rarely carry my reload in a standard belt clipped holder. I usually carry it in the small pocket that seems designed for a pistol mag on the pants and when I compete in IDPA I keep to this pattern. It is slower but you train like you expect to fight.

Fall won't arrive in Miami until about December. But I still usually carry a full size piece in an ultra discrete CROSSBREED in total comfort. I especially favor their super tuck deluxe model. I own five of them. I have carried a full sized 1911 right in front of many police officers and never been detected. For that matter I have carried in that manner in front of federal agents and not been detected. At least not to my knowledge. It rarely gets very cold down here, so I relish it when I get to go someplace upstate or out of state (but still in the south for reciprocity) and can enjoy a really cold and maybe snowy day. However, this December we're taking a short trip to visit the daughter in New York City (she works in high fashion -- corporate) and I can't say I'm looking forward to having to walk around that town unarmed.

Thanks for the ping ExSoldier!

Remember the DC sniper? One man and one boy paralyzed the city for weeks. Folks were scared witless.

Imagine TRAINED TEAMS in every major city. ANY soft target. Malls, food stores, schools, etc.

I've tried to warn my friends, but they won't listen.

I've tried to warn my friends, but they won't listen.

I gave up on my liberal friends and family. Sad to say but we had a wise saying in the army: Trauma TEACHES. Also can be expressed this way: "Live and learn or you don't live long." I'd hate to think they waited too long before they listened to me and got hurt because of it, but they're all adults and have to suffer the consequences of their world view. Am I right?

The DC terrorists were snipers and that is going to cause widespread panic far more effectively than a Mumbai situation every time. At least in a mall attack you can see the enemy and you know the threat has been identified and will be shortly dealt with, hopefully with decisive results either by sheepdogs in the crowd or by the proper authorities responding to the scene in timely fashion.

Boy, that's a lot of "senior U.S. officials" for one story. One sentence in one story for that matter.

Don't these people have names?

Barry would wet his pants if we had another terorist attack on our soil. The guy has a spine made of jello. I doubt he would vigorously / aggressively pursue an enemy, but rather go to the UN and ask for sanctions... or maybe treat it as merely a criminal matter.

Or he could go the Kennedy route.

JFK was viewed as being weak willed when it came to using American force (by the voters and by international leaders). One of the first things JFK did after taking office was to ask his staff to find a relativly “safe” way to deploy American forces so Kennedy could demonstrate to the world he wasn’t weak. Their answer: Vietnam, and the rest is history.

What is that word that you keep hearing rumors of Obama using? Pakistan. IMHO, for some reason I’m getting the impression Obama is itching to send troops into Pakistan, but doesn’t have an excuse to do so.

If there was another major terrorist attack, Obama might shrink back, or he could pull a Kennedy and decide this is his opportunity to show the world he is (1) tough, and (2) smarter than everyone else by going after the “real” terrorist base: Pakistan.

Follow what you’re saying, but believe he was talking about someplace called POK-EEEE-STAHHNN instead. Just kidding.

It’s likely that Barry would like to flex some muscle and military credibility. Right now he can only boast of getting an all time high-score playing ‘Missle Command’ on his Atari back in ‘83.

But I’m optimistic about it not happening. The mid-term elections will likely result in Barry’s party finally/fully understanding the extent of the cancer he is on their brand. I’m optimistic that Barry will be politically neutered and such a ‘Hail Mary’ pass you described will not happen. Of course, I often forget that liberalism is a mental disease...

I noticed that in the past two weeks DHS has made statements that are cushioning US for another attack. Not doing anything visible to stop it, not making any plans or alerting any Law Enforcement.
Just setting up the required sound bytes to have rebroadcast after an attack.

I am not comfortable at all now with these jerks in control. But if they do allow an attack to come on, it will have the reverse affect that they think.

people already do not think that Obama takes security seriously. If an attack occurs they will pressure him to do all kinds of things and be even more angry that he pushed things like health care rather than protecting us.

>It could provide a crisis, to provide Obama a reason to declare martial law. Maybe postpone the election “until the crisis is over”.<

If he pulls nonsense like that he is going to piss off people even more than they are now at him.

It will be his undoing. Step by step he has misjudged the American people. He has constantly doubled down and come up losing. He may well do as you say, but it would be the end of him if he did. Americans have had enough.

All it will do is incite Americans that he played around with health care, salt talks, stimulus pork projects for two years and never did anything to protect us.

Talk about backlash .. he ain’t seen nothing yet .. but if he tries this as you laid out .. it will get UGLY for him.
