US and European officials said Tuesday they have detected a plot to carry out a major, coordinated series of new terror attacks in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and possibly the United States.
A senior US official said that while there is a "credible" threat, no specific time or place is known. President Obama has been briefed about the threat, say senior US officials.
Intelligence and law enforcement authorities in the US and Europe said the threat information is based on the interrogation of a suspected German terrorist allegedly captured on his way to Europe in late summer and now being held at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
US law enforcement officials say they have been told the terrorists were planning a series of "Mumbai-style" commando raids on what were termed "economic or soft" targets in the countries.
In testimony before Congress last week, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said, "We are all seeing increased activity by a more diverse set of groups and a more diverse set of threats."

How would a big terror attack help Congressional Dems? Sure it would raise Obama’s popularity and take some of the laser focus off the economy but terrorism concern plays to the strengths of our Repub candidates.

You know, I hope it would actually *hurt* Dems. But in all honesty I’ve lost some faith in the US electorate since it handed the Oval Office to Obama. Yes, McCain was a crappy candidate, and yes, gas prices and other issues seemed to help the Dems. Still there’s no excuse for falling for the Marxist empty suit. So would a terrorist attack help or hurt the Dems? I shudder to think.
Heck, for all we know, this is a code signal to terrorists. You really have to watch what he’s saying, some of it so crazy.

It could provide a crisis, to provide Obama a reason to declare martial law. Maybe postpone the election "until the crisis is over".
Possibly, but if that is what they are thinking, I believe they are making a serious misjudgment.
Americans are already angry at Obama, see him as weak on national defense as well as incompetent on economic matters. If the Islamics or Dems think that successful terrorist attack will convince people to rally to the Presidential Colors and thus boost Democrat chances, they are deluding themselves.
It would have the exact opposite effect, because why American may be divided on Republican economic policies, when it comes to military and foreign affairs, they win hands down.

Good work, in tying these two issues together. It would not surprise me if there was a connection in there somewhere—especially with the Iranian madman. Let’s just pray Americans are way more savvy than the Spaniards.
