Blue States See Red Over Redistricting [People are moving to Red States.]
American Spectator ^ | 10/1/2010 | Daniel J. Flynn

Posted on 10/01/2010 6:59:45 PM PDT by SeattleBruce

...What reapportionment says about the future is perhaps less interesting than what it says about the present.

Red states are gaining population relative to blue states because of the divergence in policy. Jobs, and thus people, flock to red states because they are generally easier places to do business. If the states are, as Justice Brandeis posited, laboratories of democracy, then places such as New York, which will have lost sixteen electoral votes since 1960, and Massachusetts, which will have gone from fourteen to nine seats in those five decades, must be considered failed experiments....

There is also the worthless Yankee liberal (not a normal northern person - big difference) and there a couple of those 0 lovers next door. A blight on the entire area. There should be some kind of test for people exiting the Rust Belt as to wether they are normal people or worthless liberal Yankees.

“yeah but they turn states like Virginia and NC purple”

VA isn’t looking as purple these days. However it’s time for us to evangelize Conservative philosophy like we’ve never done before.

Otherwise we should write off this country - ‘cause those coming up behind us won’t ‘get it’ unless we help ‘em catch a vision.

I’ve heard a lot of younger voters in my blue WA State finally start to lament liberals/socialists.

It is time to take advantage of this to teach some life lessons to previously unreachable folks.

“Since birth they have been taught they are owed everything and they will not change but they will overwhelm the conservative voters in their new southern homes and start voting in the “gimmee” politics and laws they think they deserve.”

Only if we allow it. There are certainly people that are unreachable - but I don’t share your extreme pessimism. Whatchya gunna do - move to an island and build a castle with some howitzers? ;)

Couple of good yankee bad yankee jokes I could insert here but I will refrain

“Didn’t you get the memo”

True Blue is the color of Patriots.
Let this be the Conservative’s October surprise.
From some of us FReepers comes this directive/suggestion.
We’ve already seen the “logic” of this notion and had mucho discussions on the subject.

Swap the color association that the commieCrats and their LameStreamMedia suckered everyone into accepting some years ago.

Red = commies, every one knows that.
Blue = true blue American patriots, every one knows that.

Just start using the switcheroo, no explanation but do include the punchline “Didn’t you get the memo ?!
It is our right to do to the marxists what they have been doing to us for these many years,
Revenge is sweet when it is “clean and neat”.

Wrong, let the Yankees have the color blue. They own it. No, better just switch the Red to Grey. More appropriate.

Now that is a notion akin to my “heritage” but the matter is a marxistMedia agit prop “thang” so the Blue bullies have a position that is useful for us “patriots” to foster, now.
We can deal with the “Blue vs Grey” situation, later.
We have so many common enemies that it makes sense to deal with the matter at hand.

The problem with these carpetbagging Yankee assholes is they flee the states their crap policies have destroyed, and then bring the same crap with them here.

I’m sorry ... did that sound harsh?

Hey, CA was Reagan country 25 years ago, but the same thing happened there. East coast libs moved in and ruined the politics. Now they’re spreading out from CA to ruin other states.

I just think we have an opportunity to convert a LOT of people to our cause. Have you noticed former liberals like David Horowitz - make great Conservatives?

Nope, not a bit. I've been saying that for many years. I've watched my part of Texas change from a hard huntin' and fishin' culture to a sickening "blend" of girly-men and sniveling women who can't bait a hook and gasp at the sight of a gun.

In our tiny town (no stop light, only a couple of blinking lights at major intersections and the school zones) the first day of deer season was an excused absence, I'm not kidding. I miss that.

All my Boy Scouts could canoe the river, build and set trotlines and make do with very little. Most of them have served their country, fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, finished college and are out in the world hopefully teaching some kid how to build a trotline and run it.

Hmmm...if your hypothesis is true, CA must be getting more conservative all the time because we’re shipping our liberals out of state.

And yet, that doesn’t seem to be happening. CA is getting more liberal. Maybe the rest of the country is shipping their liberals to us.

That and the third world...

I agree. That is why Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia and Florida are turning purple at best. Even Texas has a shade of blue which years ago would have been unheard of.

Not really. Adding more seats in “Red” states usually means that it’s harder to carve out as many safe Republican seats as you can with fewer House seats. Reapportionment will mostly move Democrat seats from North to South.

After paying 11% of our gross earnings to the New York State tax collector in 1979, we packed up the kids and moved to Texas. It was not easy leaving the beautiful Finger Lakes region but the Houston Chronicle help wanted section was thicker than the entire Sunday edition of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, and NO STATE INCOME TAX !

On the drive down we accumulated a center console full of coins, when we hit Texas we stopped at a small store to make a few purchases. As I slid the coins across the counter the clerk picked one of them up an studied it for a while. And asked .”what the hail is this thang ?”

“Oh, that`a a Canadian quarter dollar” I said.

His reply ..” well hell boy, you in Texas now, got any America money? “

God .. I do love the SOUTH.

AND I VOTE REPUBLICAN.

We need RWO fences - one to keep illegal aliens out and another to keep LIBs in the North! There should be a “right to return” for any Southern born and/or raised to move.

Gives new meaning to “Better Red than Dead”.

FWIW I hate the liberal generated change to Red from Blue and the Reds to Blue.

It’ll simply confuse the next generation just like when statists stole the moniker liberal from Classical Liberals.

Controlling language is controlling minds.

“True Blue is the color of Patriots.”

Here’s a bit of history to back up what you wrote:

On September 15, 1775, the local Revolutionary Council of Safety in Charleston drafted then Colonel Wiliam Moultrie to prepare a flag to display at Fort Johnson on Sullivan’s Island, outside of Charleston, South Carolina. British war ships prowled outside of the port of Charleston, preparing to attack the city.

Inside the fort, the First and Second South Carolina Regiments marshaled forces to prepare for the bombardment and turn back the British invasion.

According to Moultrie’s memoirs, a flag was needed for the purpose of “signals” to direct American forces during the imminent siege. No national or state flag existed at that time.

Moultrie looked out on his troops and saw they were “clothed in blue” and “wore a silver crescent on the front of their caps.

“I had a large flag made with a crescent on the dexter corner, to be in uniform with the troops,” Moultrie wrote. “This was the first American flag, which was displayed in South Carolina.”
