A veteran CBS Radio News correspondent was arrested early Saturday on drug charges after police searched his Northwest Washington home, and found marijuana plants growing in his yard, authorities said.

Police arrested Howard Arenstein and his wife at their home in the 3500 block of T Street and charged them with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Arenstein is married to Orly Azoulay, Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, the largest and most widely read newspaper in Israel.

Police executed a search warrant at the home Saturday after a tip from an area resident, and found 11 fully mature marijuana plants and six two-ounce bags of marijuana inside the home. ..

He has supervised coverage and reported on major Washington stories such as the disputed 2000 presidential election, the September 11th hijackings, the war in Iraq and the DC area sniper shootings. He oversaw and reported on the entire impeachment process of President Clinton, anchoring daily wrap-ups of the Senate trial.

In 2002, Arenstein won an individual Edward R. Murrow award for Feature Reporting. He won a second individual Murrow Award in 2006 in sports reporting for his coverage of the Washington Nationals first home game.

He is Executive Producer of the weekly public affairs broadcast, “The CBS News Weekend Roundup,” airing nationally on hundreds of CBS News affiliated stations.

Sure. But “intent to sell” is ridiculous for a dozen plants in the back yard.

He's probably one of those flakes that continually replays the opening credits of Star Trek trying to figure out which star the Enterprise is going to appear from.

"Ala chingada eh, are you really one of those pointy eared Volcano men?"

Of the same ilk. Except that Dan probably can't blame his stupidity on pot smoking.

Ah the modern liberal farmer. I’m surprised there are no residency restrictions on gardening on your city property. Or maybe that’s what led to being exposed?

Wonder who the rat was. My guess is it may have been a Democrat politician who was involved with marijuana and who turned against Arenstein and/or his wife and stabbed him/them in the back.

The DC police don't seem to do much when Democrat bigwigs might be adversely impacted. Their failure to solve the Chandra Levy murder case for more than nine years and counting proves that.

BTW, Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli newspaper which employs Mrs. Arenstein, is a low-class tabloid.

Am wondering if this is not more to this than meets the eye. Will suspend judgment until we can see more of the fine print. . .As for the 'neighbor' reporting them. . .don't know; a plausible explanation but also an easy canned explanation. . .

Trust little of Washington Gov/politcs and this close to Elections and with an Israeli Journalist wife working for Israel's largest newspaper -involved here - trust nothing. . .

. . .still trust nothing per first appearances - particularly, per Democrat Rule of Washington.

As you know, they not only grew it and smoked it, the fibers made great canvas ... until Dupont invented a substitute fiber and needed government help in promoting its use over the fibers from hemp. During WWI the boot covers, tents, ship canvases, and even clothing for troops was woven from hemp fibers.
