Latinos not enthusiastic but likely to vote Democratic, survey says

Los Angeles — Latinos, a key part of the Democratic coalition that helped put President Obama in the White House, have the same lack of enthusiasm as other voters but will likely vote Democratic in this year’s midterm election, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center.

The survey, based on bilingual telephone interviews with 1,375 Latinos from Aug. 17 through Sept. 19, shows that 65% of registered Latino voters said they plan to support a Democrat while 22% said they prefer a Republican. That is about the same as the party identification: 62% of Latinos say they favor Democrats and a quarter saying they favor Republicans.

Latinos appear to be less motivated than other voters. About 32% said they have given this year's election “quite a lot” of thought, compared to about half of all voters. About 51% of Latinos said they were “absolutely certain” they will vote, compared to 70% of all voters.

About 44% of those Latinos who consider themselves Republicans said they had given a lot of thought to the election, while just 28% of Latino Democrats said the same, according to the survey.

They will stay tied, inexorably, to their illegal brothers and sisters forever - it’s La RAZA

This makes no sense. Ovaerall turnout for midterms is way under 50 %

Sorry, Dems, but with the energy level of most Latinos, if they ain’t enthusiastic, they ain’t voting. (And I say that as someone who lives six months a year in Honduras and loves the Latinos.)

I could never understand why hispanics, who are religious, warriors, and entrepreneurs by nature, could support the party of fruits, nuts, atheists, pansies, and bums.

I don’t get it.

The category “Hispanic” is useless, they need to separate the Protestant Hispanics from the Catholic Hispanics.

I am not that well versed on Hispanicanisms....the predominance of what America sees is the La Raza campaigns and the accompanying stanzas from George Lopez et al.

No one wants to tell someone, even a pollster, they’re too lazy to vote. Despite this poll, I think the Democrat constituencies, especially minorities, are not turning out this year.

You know how no one ever says anything about the Catholic vote in America being liberal?

Hispanic Protestants, vote to the right of the Catholics in America.

Hispanics that are Protestant, are about a 50/50 vote, going Republican by 56% in 2004, and 48% Republican in 2008.

That's very interesting and not entirely a surprise since I live in Texas.

Would you mind posting some more of the breakouts? In particular, the Republican/Democrat vote for the past few election cycles as it compares to Hispanic Catholics vs. Hispanic Protestants?

Thanks.

That is because there is a coordinated effort by the dnc and the enemedia to poll and state stats that show that dims are actually on on the move with the mo on their side... otherwise no one will show up to vote for the communist party.

I have only seen it go back to 2000.

In 2000, the Republican share of the Protestant Hispanics was 44%, in 2004 it was 56%, in 2008 it was 48%.

In 2000, the Republican share of the Catholic Hispanics was 33%, in 2004 it was 33%, in 2008 it was about 21%
