Marriage Trend Reversal: More Educated More Likely to Get Married

Young adults with college degrees are now more likely to be married than those who are less educated, a reversal of longtime trends as the struggling economy pushes weddings to all-time lows.

About 62 percent of college-educated 30-year-olds were married or had been married, compared with 60 percent of those without a bachelor's degree, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of census data. That is a significant shift from the 1990s, when young adults who didn't finish college were more likely to have wed than their better-educated counterparts, 75 percent to 69 percent.

-- More than 9 in 10 U.S. adults marry sometime in their life. Overall, Americans marry at higher levels than people in most other Western countries.

The real news here is that cohabitation and illegitimacy are surging amongst lower class whites. Which is a real problem, because college educated middle class folks aren’t the ones committing crimes or sucking the welfare system dry.

It is the lower classes that are most in need of traditional Judeo-Christian values to stay on the straight and narrow.

It’s because of the government. If you are not married, it is a lot easier to get entitlements.

I personally know several lower class whites with babies who are not getting married because otherwise they lose government handouts.

I can also say older folk don’t get married because it messes up their social security and such. Sort of surprising to see, as older folk are much more convinced of the importance of legal marraige, but I can understand why.

Man, do we have it backwards in this country. People in married relationships are more likely to raise productive, law abiding citizens than those who do not.

We absolutely need to stop supporting the BMOA (baby’s mamas of America) and give the tax breaks to the married couples and homeowners. They work and they run the economy.
