Election Day is almost here!
Now I would never presume to tell you for whom to vote. However, I would like to let some Founding Fathers remind you of some very good principles to follow when voting.
Have you decided yet for whom to vote? If so, what criteria did you use to make your decision? We all certainly look at the positions of the candidates on the issues that are most important to us and try to find the one that matches our positions the best. But, have you considered the most important quality? Here’s what Noah Webster said about character.
"When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God.’”
John Jay, one of the authors of the Federalist Papers and the First Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, gave one clear rule when choosing who to vote for:
"Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”
Founding Father John Witherspoon said,
"The people in general ought to have regard to the moral character of those whom they invest with authority either in the legislative, executive, or judicial branches.”
I know that this seems foreign to most of us today – just men, Christians, moral character. Today we are bombarded with messages from the media that character isn’t important, and that the public life and the private life of the candidates should be kept separate. However, this is a very recent phenomenon. Founding Father Samuel Adams, in 1775, said,

By choosing to run for public office, the candidates thereby open their private life to the public for scrutiny. The issue of character is simply too important to be overlooked. Why is this so important? Mr. Noah Webster answers:
"The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty (voting); if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”
Hmmmmm. Does that sound familiar? We, as citizens of the United States, have failed in our duty to elect ‘just men’ to rule. The consequences are obvious.
In God’s grace though, we still have an opportunity to turn this country back around. We all must do our part, and voting for candidates of character is a good place to start. You might ask: How can we be expected to know this much about the candidates? Well, it’s going to take some work. John Adams, the second president of the United States, gives us the answer:
"It becomes necessary to every subject then, to be in some degree a statesman: and to examine and judge for himself of the tendencies of political principles and measures.”
So, for whom should you vote? The candidate that best demonstrates the character of being a just Christian person of good moral character. How do we know which candidate best fits that description? The answer is to do your homework. Analyze the character of the candidates. Do they follow through with their promises? Are they consistent in their words and deeds? Do they live a godly lifestyle? Do their positions on issues line up with Scripture? Could you call the candidate a ‘just man’ or ‘just woman’ who fears God, a ‘Christian’, and a person of ‘moral character’? If so, you’ve got your decision made. If not, keep looking.
Let me encourage you to take some time to analyze the candidates and then vote for the one who best meets these criteria. Become a statesman. Examine the candidates and judge for yourself. I can’t tell you the exact candidate to vote for, but the criteria mentioned here will eliminate most of them, unfortunately. Then, pray for the wisdom to vote for the person that best exemplifies a godly character. Do that, and you will be faithfully discharging your duty to your country.
And remember that God is in control, even when it doesn’t seem much like it.

We’re 19 days away from the election - anyone who doesn’t know who they are voting for at this late date...doesn’t need to bother voting.
Well, we don’t need more RINO’s.
If we don’t elect people of decent character, we are no better off than before. We simply can’t afford Obama lites or more McPain’s. They only slow down our destruction. We need to turn around and fly RIGHT, a HARD RIGHT TURN.
To be fair, there are a couple of races in which I don’t know whether to vote for the RINO, who’s going to win anyway (Texas Dist. 12) or just not vote in this race. I don’t want my vote endorsing socialism with an “R” face on it.
I vote in California. Can anybody recommend a good write in candidate for Lieutenant Governor? The Repbublican on the ballot is Abel Maldonado. Maldonado is a turncouat Vichy Republican traitor who was the one Rebublican defector the Democrats needed to pass the budget last year.
Screw him.
How about Chuck DeVore? He won't get anywhere, but it's an opportunity to protest.

If I had a choice between a religious George Bush-style "conservative" versus an agnostic conservative Constitutionalist, I'd easily vote for the latter.
The Constitution has a prohibition on religious tests for public office, regardless of what Webster and Jay said.
Long ago (I was 22 and my grandmother was 80-something. It was 1972 and my first general election.) I took my grandmother to her polling place to vote. My immigrant grandmother became a U.S. citizen in the 1920s and never missed an election because she always either walked to the polling place or had someone take her there. It was my turn to take her there because I was home on leave from the Air Force and she wanted to show me off to some of her friends.
I walked alongside her—she refused to drive to the polls because it was only seven blocks!—as she told me how bad our Congressman was. She thought this guy was in league with the devil. My mother suspected the guy was the devil. She also told me how wonderful the challenger was—honest, decent, a good family man, a hard worker, etc. I already knew all that. She told me I ought to try to be more like the challenger. Ouch!
When we go to the polls she asked me to help her mark her ballot because “my eyes aren’t what they used to be.” When we got into the booth I was shocked because she marked the ballot for the incumbent. I asked her if she wanted me to get her a new ballot. She sighed and said no, she would explain later.
On the way home she sighed again and said, “Big Jim (the incumbent’s name—the guy was huge, about 6’8” and maybe 380 pounds of blubber) used to be like the guy running against him. But after so many years on Congress he has become corrupt, corrupt, CORRUPT! (I had to dodge the closed umbrella she was using to punctuate her statement.)
“So, grandma, why did you vote for Big Jim?” She looked as if she was about to cry and said, “Because I don’t want to be party to corrupting another honest man!”
I understood what my grandmother was saying, but I resolved to change Congressmen just as I had changed some of my younger siblings diapers—and for the same reason. I went and voted for the challenger.
By the way, when Big Jim died, the undertaker could not find a coffin big enough for his corpse. Even a piano case was too small. He wasn’t sure what he would do since he didn’t want to commission a custom coffin and have to put the body into cold storage. One of the town drunks—we have a few of them—said, “You oughta give the (expletives challenging is parentage on both side of his family deleted) an enema. Yud be able to bury the (other expletives some of which I did not fully understand since some of them were in Gaelic) in a (expletive deleted) matchbox.” He then relit his cigarillo with a friction match and tossed the empty box to the undertaker.
The Constitution prohibits the GOVERNMENT from imposing religious tests. The people can do what they want.

Could you list those “religious tests” in the Constitution?

With the help of GunRunner and others we are violating ALL George Washington’s concerns with an arrogance I have not seen before.
Could you list those “religious tests” in the Constitution?
I made not mention of a "state religion" in my post, and I specifically said that the "Constitution has a prohibition on religious tests for public office".
Please read more carefully next time.
I'll quote from Article 6:
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
You are free to have your own religious test for who to vote for, but the Founders wrote in a specific prohibition of such a test if codified into law.
Now we have trash like Obama. Look at his CHARACTER. Who knows - is he a Moslem or is he an atheist? Either way his “religious” principles and beliefs are totally contrary to our culture and country. Obama is destroying our country.
You may say, well as "Christian" could destroy us too. No, if people are paying attention to WHAT the person DOES, his/her actions instead of believing anything said, we'd be in a different position. What is in a person's HEART comes out through their BEHAVIOR. There is nothing "Christian" about Obama and I don't care how many times he calls himself that.
Oblahblah would not be caught dead giving this advice and meaning it. Shame on him.
I'm sure that there were founders who wanted only Christians to hold office, but there were more that did not support this view. That's why there is a prohibition on any religious test for any public office.
What changed? Isn't is people who REJECT Christian belief? Anything but Christianity is permissible. Look at Obama again. Can you imagine anyone but Obama using RELIGION as a litmus test in recruiting people?

Perhaps you overlooked the goal of the founders. It was NOT to have a national or state religion. We are to have freedom of religion, however our government was to KEEP Judoe Christian PRINCIPLES as the underpunnings of our government and laws. It is ONLY because of that America thrived and was blessed. As we threw the Judeo Christian God out, we’ve had more and more challenges. Electing trash, like Obama is a red flag. Our nation is reahing a turning point. Which direction will we go?

Does not matter: Steinberg has already announced that he intends to go right back into session & get all the line item vetoes that Arnold crossed out of the budget put back in.
IIRC, that was about $962 million. That would put the budget out of balance right out of the gate——AGAIN.
I don’t agree with Maldanado.
Steinberg & the Demorats in Calif are liars & cheats.
They twist everything to keep up all their entitlement programs.
When that state gets closed down, I certainly hope there is a bench warrant for each & every one of them & that they cannot escape to another state.
