White House press secretary Robert Gibbs responds to an inquiry that Michelle Obama was campaigning inside a polling place while she was early voting.

“First Lady Michelle Obama dons a weightlifter’s support belt as she prepares to clean and jerk fellow early voter Anna Roberts at a Chicago polling place Wednesday.”

LOL!!!!! Then she would be the record holder!

FIRST LADY CAMPAIGNED INSIDE POLLING PLACE
Thu Oct 14 2010 16:19:25 ET

First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law — when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!

The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.

After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.

She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.

“She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going,” Campbell said.

According to the pool reporter at the scene, the conversation took place IN the voting center not far from the booths.

Illinois state law — Sec. 17-29 (a) — states: “No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place.”

WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS ELECTIONEERING

When questioned about the brazen nature of Mrs. Obama’s campaigning, press secretary Robert Gibbs defended the action.

“I don’t think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband’s agenda,” Gibbs smiled.

“Since Michelle was there simply as a voter...”

You are incorrect. No one is allowed to campaign within a certain number of feet from the poll, and certainly not while inside the poll location.

However, like others have pointed out, she is the First Lady and she will be given a pass on this.

I don’t usually post this kind of post but:

WHAT THE HELL IS SHE WEARING? I miss Laura Bush; even Hilary knew how to wear a pantsuit. Michelle Zero looks like a bag lady who dressed herself out of a Salvation Army bin (no offense to the S.A.)

...muttering to myself....”no class, no class, no class.....”

LOL! Comment of the day. A weightlifter's belt was exactly what I thought of too.

It's a shame that one has to be near 50 to know what BR-549 is all about.

Hey Grandpa, what's for supper!?

If Manchelle can do this, I guess it’s okay for me to go to my local polling place and tell people there how important it is to vote to stop Obama’s agenda.

This is WRONG on SO many levels...it’s more than just campaigning within the booth area—the photo op surely threatens anonymity.

Somebody with photoshop skills should put a vaudville hook in the hand that's reaching out in the left-hand side of the photo, and put the crook around Manchelle's neck as if to yank her out of the photo.

It’s really not that big a deal. Sure it could be ‘technically’ improper, and a law suit could be filed.

More B.S., and more lawyers making more money and would it help?

No. So Michelle appealed to one voter. My God, she is the President’s Wife. It’s not like her bias is any secret.

The real issue is, what is Barry up to, while the media has us focused on an issue which will produce a mild reaction among the general public.

What are the status of election officials, the illegal voters, the dead voters, the mail in voters, the military voters.

The States reported a huge amount of voters that were dead or illegal, yet still voted, still were on the ‘roles’.

Any chance they will ever remove them?

It's a shame that one has to be near 50 to know what BR-549 is all about.

It's on RFDTV every Sunday evening.

My son and daughter-in-law (both around 30 years old) were watching it with me one week. They didn't seem to understand the appeal of the show.

"It’s really not that big a deal. "

Since it's not that big of a deal, I should be able to go to my local polling place and tell another voter that it's important to stop Obama's agenda, and I won't get in trouble for it right? What's your phone number so I can call you to bail me out of jail.

As demonstrated by the Obama treatment of the Black Panther voter intimidation case, they believe Blacks are allowed to violate polling place rules.

What do you think the Obama's say about "cracker babies" when among their racist cohorts?

Only campaigners can campaign.

I know the same law with virtually the same language in Virginia means I, as a private citizen, can wait in line at the polls and talk stuff with my friends also waiting inline.

A party official can't.

First they screw up military ballots and now they allow a Democrat to campaign in a polling place. Nice work.
