MYFOXNY.COM - Just after seven o'clock Thursday morning, Katherine O'Connor and her boyfriend were walking home from a McDonald's in Garwood, New Jersey, when she suffered an asthma attack.
"It has been happening every day for the past four or five days," she said.
Her inhaler was at home. The couple was near there, but a CVS on North Avenue, near Cedar Street, was closer. They went in and found the pharmacist on duty.
"I had exactly a twenty-dollar bill. It came to twenty-one and change," Jack Brown said. "I offered him my cell phone, my wallet. I said i live right around the corner. I come in here all the time."
He was told the inhaler with tax would cost just over $21. He was short a dollar and change.

WTF is wrong with people.
Unbelievable, If I had been there I would have bought it for her....just about anyone would have...at least 99.99% of Freepers would have.
This is illegal. The man, if truly a pharmacist, ought to lose his license.
That's the libertarian world we live in. If you can't take care of yourself, then your freeloadin' butt can die off already. Ayn Rand told me so.
Just one idiot at a cash register can do SO much harm!
Now the libs in the Obama Administration are going to make CVS their whipping boy and kick the crap out of them in order to promote the virtues of Socialized Medicine.
It ain't political. It's people.

Two adults with a car and a cell phone didn’t have $20 and change or a credit card between them.
Right.
This is illegal. The man, if truly a pharmacist, ought to lose his license.
My grandfather was a pharmacist during the Depression.
Everyone in the neighborhood owed him money, and he in turn owed it all over town. Immigrant mill workers used to offer to pay him with baskets of tomatoes, a chicken, home-made wine, etc. He told my dad “so if somebody is sick and needs medicine and does not have money to pay me, what am I supposed to do? Tell him no?”
The store was a clunker but his reward was great in Heaven.
Yep!
CVS Will Pay $75 Million After Smurfers Bought Meth Ingredients.
Oh bite me.
Most pharmacists are Third Worlders with names like Xyrtlnjapsofdjasopjdopj Yzajopfjapsfdj.
If you bring in the cesspool of humanity, it will stink, eventually.
...and she went to McDonald's without bringing her inhaler along? And her boyfriend couldn't spot her a buck and change?
Yeah, the store was cold to them, but I think there's plenty of blame to go around in this case.
I would have just bought it.
Another side: We had a woman where I work having an asthma attack and had left her inhaler at home. She got her prescriptions filled at Rite Aid, and there is one just up the street from us. I called the Rite Aid and explained the situation. The pharmacist said “come and get it, I’ll have it ready”. I sent someone to the store, the pharmacist gave them the medication and told them to have the patient come and pay when she was able. They were so cooperative I was amazed.
Didn’t read the article, eh?
Hmmm. Is this story true? Maybe, if so, I cannot imagine they didnt’ help her. But, is it possible this is not true? Were these people angry with the pharmacy over something else? My sons were asthmatic as children. I would not have left home without their inhalers, esp if they had been having attacks every day for 4 or 5 days (as these people said in the article). I’m withholding my opinion on this one, since I’m am cynical these days.
However, if I had been there and this had happened I would have bought it for her myself.
