Dems call for McCain investigation
Politico ^ | 2010-10-20 | Kasie Hunt

National Democrats have asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate whether Arizona Sen. John McCain violated campaign finance laws when his campaign paid to run ads for Republican House candidates in Arizona — charges the McCain campaign said are “baseless.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee filed a FEC complaint Tuesday against McCain and his campaign committee, Friends of John McCain, because of recent ads backing Ruth McClung, the GOP nominee in Arizona’s 7th District, and Jesse Kelly, who is running in the 8th District. The complaint also asks the FEC to investigate whether McClung, Kelly and their respective campaign committees were in violation of campaign finance laws.

The TV commercials for Kelly and McClung include the standard disclaimer required by McCain’s namesake landmark campaign finance legislation, “paid for by Friends of John McCain,” and feature McCain himself announcing, “I’m John McCain and I approve this message.”

Yet if McCain is spending more than $4,800 on each ad — the legal limit for a political contribution — it’s likely he’s breaking the campaign finance law, Democrats say in the complaint.

No, his idea have never changed... He has campaigned on different ideas but that was just another farce. He is and always will be a Liberal Republican with a cause - not anything that is good for his constituents though... He is the ultimate snake of a politician.

So....let me get this straight, you're posting an article that bitches (from a democrat point of view no less) about McCain supporting two good conservatives.

May I be the first to point out you're being even more dumb than normal........

Dems do this. Dems do that. Dems say this. Dems accuse Republicans...blah blah..This is all diversion. They don't want the idiots remembering why they are mad.

Nobody, absolutely nobody detests John McCain more than me, but if he's helping Ruth and Jesse, I don't see any reason to blast him.

The way you feel about John McCain, is the way I feel about George W. Bush.

The FEC complaint hinges on McCain-Feingold legislation rules that outline how much money outside groups can spend on “coordinated” communications. If McCain didn’t coordinate with the McClung and Kelly campaigns, the ads would qualify as independent expenditures— and McCain could potentially spend as much of the $550,000 in his campaign account as he wants to. McCain’s campaign says there was no coordination. It filed forms designating the ads as independent expenditures to the secretary of the Senate on Oct. 18, according to documents the McCain campaign provided to POLITICO. The filings show McCain spent about $92,000 to produce and air each ad. The commercials feature both McCain and Arizona’s junior senator, Jon Kyl, hitting Democratic Reps. Raul Grijalva, McClung’s opponent, and Gabrielle Giffords, who faces Kelly.

Looks like a frivlous attack by the DCCC. Not liking McCain is one thing, siding with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and cheering on their socialist agenda is another. The fact you'd also side with the DCCC against these very conservative House candidates is quite telling as to your true agenda. You are a perpetual complainer - nothing positive to offer - you just like to whine and complain with no real purpose.

Agreed. Those are two pretty good candidates, and trusting an article that is basically a democrat attempt to slander them and not elect them for their first terms is nothing but stupidity.

I'm no McCain fan either, but when he supports someone good I'm all for it.

Yes, that's exactly correct. If you read further into the article, the part that rabscuttle failed to highlight, you find that this is completely legal as an independent expenditure, and McCain's campaign filed the appopriate paperwork for the same. Nothing improper was done here, and it is a Democrat lie to try to generate phony negative publicity for Ruth McClung and Jesse Kelly - a lie that rabscuttle all to happily is jumping for joy over and spreading and even doesn't mind tarnishing the names of two strong conservatives like Ruth McClung and Jesse Kelly. There can be no further argument with these attacks on Kelly and McClung and siding with the Democrat Campaign Committee's nonsensical smears that rabscuttle is a friend of the conservative agenda.

Cmon Rabadash Rabs, fess up here.

Your article is a piece of crap and demonstrates just how nuts you can be.

Tarring two good conservative candidates is not a good thing to do on FR.

Is the hatred of JM so strong here that you can’t give him credit for his efforts?

I live in Arizona.

So...No...

Why yes - if you don’t like McCain, anything goes - including promoting Democrat Party lies and smearing conservative House candidates like Jesse Kelly and Ruth McClung in the process. McCain can legally spend up to a half million dollars in independent expenditures under the law for other candidates, and that’s what he’s doing here - for very conservative candidates in competitive districts, no less. No fan of McCain, but that’s something to be glad that he’s doing - and no friend of the conservative cause would promote trying to damage Jesse Kelly or Ruth McClung as a few have done here. Those who have cheered on the DCCC in their bogus smear effort here should never be regarded as having any credibility as being an ally of conservativism.

Well - you don’t need to like McCain...however, that doesn’t mean endorsing Democrat Party smear jobs is a viable alternative, especially when such smear jobs also are an attack on conservatives like Jesse Kelly and Ruth McClung.

Three McCain defenders so far. Still not gaining critical mass

There are no McCain defenders here.

You might want to rethink the idiocy of publicizing a democrat series of arguments for trying to take down two good new conservative candidates.

But I guess your sycophantic love for the poster precludes seeing that.

Didnt John McCain write these campaign laws? Oh the inhumanity of Democrats accusing McCain of violating laws he wrote. Those Democrats are evil. Remember when they all liked him?

Viva McCain!

See what happens when you “cross the aisle”, Senator? You reach out with an olive branch and draw back a bloody stump!

I feel no sympathy for this dude, at all.

I could not agree more. Maybe McCain will quit saying “my friends” so much. What a puke he is and he deserves everything his “friends” throw at him.

Facts are not relevant, Lakeshark, as you can see from sickoflibs' comments. It's okay to lie about McCain if you don't like him and side with the Democrat Party's bogus charges and agenda against conservative House candidates - and even smear conservative House candidates like Jesse Kelly and Ruth McClung in the process. If you merely point out the fact the DCCC's charges designed to harm the campaigns of these good conservative House candidates are nonsense, you are a "McCain defender." In fact, if McCain were to say something along the lines of "feeding children poison is wrong" and you say "I agree with McCain on that", that would also make you a "McCain defender."

You got that right.

"Critical mass" has been reached, and now that the democrat lie has been exposed, notice the poster of the article has not returned.

It's an indefensible position on a conservative forum.......but don't tell the sycophant followers, they might cry........

John McCain is a great American, and a real conservative too. If he had won in 2008 it would have been like 1981 again.

Viva McCain

And his smart daughter is the Republican future too, that's why she is treated so civilly on MSNBC Maddow. They know a conservative when they see one.
