The codes used by the president to launch a nuclear strike were mislaid for months during the Clinton administration, the former highest-ranking US officer has said.

Gen Shelton said the incident had taken place "around the year 2000".
Under the procedures, an official was sent every month to check the codes, and that they were replaced every four months with new codes.
According to Gen Shelton's book, Without Hesitation, an official had gone to check one month and been told by the aide that the codes were on the president's person but that he was in an important meeting and could not be disturbed.
A different official went to do the same check a month later and was told a similar story. When it came time to change the codes, an aide admitted they had been missing for months.
Gen Shelton said it was apparent that the president had not had the codes and that he had been unaware that an aide had lost them.

Maybe the POTUS accidentally dropped the codes in Monica’s hand bag while cleaning up.
All a foreign agency would have to do is get somebody around the President, help him lose the codes, report back that we were DISARMED and we’d be screwed?
We’re putting 330 million lives in the hands of an individual who would not be able to get a SECRET level security clearance as and E-1 in the military?
Clinton always relied on his public’s adoration of him to get away with crimes, under that guise that he was a “lovable rogue.” But he never did anything free of charge, in my opinion, even “losing” things.
Recall that, during the horrendous firestorm outside of the Sandia Labs in NM, when two highly classified laptops were missing for days. Just long enough for all the data to be transferred to other computers, then placed behind a couple of filing cabinets to be found, well after the whole area had been completely scoured without a trace of the laptops. And, one seems to recall that a scientist of Chinese ethnicity was ID’d and detained for prosecution, who worked at Sandia.
He was so in bed with China his entire administration, it wasn’t hard to imagine the fate of the laptops. If not for public outrage, the entire port of Long Beach would be in COSCO today.
Money. Clinton. China.
All matter that has ever existed, still exists today.
Now, where are the damn things? Why no investigation to determine where they are.... who has them?

They weren’t lost. They were in the same place as the Rose Law Firm billing records. Just laying around somewhere so the chicoms could “find” them.
This was reported—shock of shocks—on the ABC nightly news a few days ago. They also said it happened once before—in the Carter White House. Isn’t that just special!
Let’s pretend this happened under the Bush Administration!

I think your explanation is just about right. Remember how they ‘found’ Vince Foster’s suicide note, tore up in his brief case? It took them several days to ‘find’ it. No one could see torn up pieces of paper in his briefcase for several days? Right.
Not quite. It doesn't disarm the boomer subs, just the surface based weapons.
Well, someone answer me this. If this story is true, why would Gen. Shelton go and endorse Hillary in 2008?
Since they were missing and only the aide knew it there would have been some undetermined delay of time and action between the president knowing they were lost and going to an alternate or backup course of action what ever that would be,that is, if there is one.
It is the threat of instant retaliation and annihilation that is the great deterrent factor.
If some radical nut case would have had this knowledge and attacked, what could be happening right now is that those of us that were left would be roving packs of animals preying on each other in the dark ages.
Sub nukes aren't on that system, it is useless for them. By the time the subs could be summoned up to a depth where they could receive the codes, the transmitters would be glass parking lots.
It happens that the skipper of a boomer does not launch by himself — other officers must assist to activate the warheads. And they do have orders to cover the situation in which the USA has been nuked and all other retaliatory systems are down. THAT is what keeps the whackos from taking a shot at us.
Only way to neutralize the lurking threat of the submarine fleet is to catch them when they leave port and follow them everywhere they go, so as to be ready to give them a torpedo enema if they open the missile tubes. The fact is, nobody has been able to do this to us, while our subs HAVE done it to those of rival forces.
