Tea Party Shaping 2012 Race
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-25-10 | PETER WALLSTEN

Posted on 10/24/2010 5:30:44 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

The tea-party phenomenon is forcing possible Republican presidential candidates in 2012 to make early and potentially high-risk strategic gambles over how to harness the movement.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is traveling the country to build alliances with local tea-party activists in key presidential primary and caucus states.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is solidifying ties with traditional party leaders and organizations by helping them with fund raising and candidate endorsements.

The two potential rivals are acting on opposing assumptions about the newly energized but volatile tea party-infused Republican base. The results of their decisions will show the impact that tea-party supporters will have on the 2012 presidential race, and on the new political scene to emerge after the Nov. 2 midterm elections.

One third of Republicans support the tea party so strongly that they describe themselves as part of the movement more than they identify as Republicans. Among this group, Mr. Gingrich is considered the GOP's "most important leader"—ahead of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has tied herself closely to tea-party candidates this year.

The article lost me right there.

Who in their right mind goes to TEA parties and supports Newt (or Mitt for that matter)? I never saw a Newt or Mitt sign there, not once. They are both late to the party, and simply trying to shapeshift to use all this new energy. It's not gong to work, the author is very wrong and slightly nuts to write such an idea.

The Tea Party was not started to address the social issues of the day but the economic ones

The explosion of fury and anger that is the Tea Party didn't come into being only as a reaction to specific economic issues. It came into being because Americans had finally had enough of the whole Socialist/Statist/Democrat/Leftist agenda of the last 70+ years.

The Tea Party is the release of a lifetime's worth of pent-up frustration and anger over the loss of everything precious, valued, and cherished about our beloved America. And ALL of those losses can be laid squarely at the feet of the left.

What you're witnessing is a citizen rebellion, the likes of which has not been seen in this country since perhaps its inception. We are at war with a pernicious ideology that seeks to transform our constitutional republic into a Socialist/Marxist totalitarian state.

Yes, we want to reverse the damage of our government's out-of-control spending, but the well of our anger is much deeper than that. Much deeper.

The Tea Party is attracting the angry because neither major political party has addressed the issues that are driving the population's fury. I have yet to hear any politician talk about the economic fraud that is occurring. The blatant manipulation of the markets, the purposeful housing bubble, the transfer of Main St wealth to a select few on Wall St(think Goldman). Where is the outrage from either political party?? I detest the progressive agenda, but am sorely disappointed with the present ‘conservatives’ in power who have sat on their collective hands while the pillaging has been going on. Remember, the Pubbies were in total power when alot of this crap started and did nothing. Will the ‘new’ Pubbies that take over be different than the old ones who had control? Time will tell but I'm not holding out much hope. No one has leveled with the American people about the deep economic crap this country is in and the pain that will be required to reverse the slide. After all, the pols want to get reelected.....

It looks like Governor Palin is the top dog in those three break downs, she ties for first in one category, and comes in second in the other two, giving her the top total percentage as most important leader/spokesman for the Republican party.

Why are you sending me unsolicited harrassing FReepmails out of the blue, GOP_Lady ? Has JimRob not warned you about your behavior on this website ? Shilling for Slick Willard will NOT be tolerated. Attacking me privately because you don’t like this position won’t help your cause.

I remember when I fist met you here years ago.

You were having a literal spasm.

I tried to calm you down and help.

Since then, you’ve stabbed me in the back.

I feel sorry for you.

Tick tick tick...

All the psychosis “conservatives” and “dream date” girl fans of the worthless Romney have forsaken every Conservative effort, word and deed and wiped them all away have, negated every single good they have done for the movement and done it all for nothing, which is the definition of Mitt.

Gun grabbing Mitt's my last choice, and I'm not even a Palin supporter. I've seen plenty of the Romney faction here in Michigan and how they do things. I've also seen what his national staff did when McCain absorbed them in 2008 and how they acted in the final days of the election even before the ballots were cast. It was sabotage and cya to open things up for Mitt in 2012.

Anybody but Mitt, including the libertarian.

Yup, and you see their deranged efforts in attacking Conservatives on this board. These people have always been as terrifying as the moonbats who thinks Emperor Zero is the Messiah. When “lady” is finally, permanently, zotted from this website, and it’s not far off, heaven help the people around her when she goes off like that ticking time bomb. Think “Madame Butterfly.”

Well, not on this website. If the loony-toons brigades keep up with the Slickster shilling, they’re going to get swept out in one stroke. Too bad that didn’t happen back in ‘07.

Ames Iowa straw poll is 10 months away. It will be a humm-dinger this time as Mitt will fight to the death ... and it will be the beginning of the end for him.
