The 10 Most Leftist Albums Ever Made
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | October 27, 2010 | James Miles and David Swindle

Posted on 10/28/2010 2:12:18 PM PDT by HorowitzianConservative

What albums might Leon Trotsky have done some head-banging to if Josef Stalin hadn't sent an assassin to shove an icepick through his skull?

Answer: the 10 Neo-Communist (and some flat-out communist) titles on our list. We count them down from the more benign Democrat-supporters to outright totalitarian radicals.

Included in this collection are alternative, rock, rap, folk, and hip-hop titles. We've also done our best not to be too obvious with our choices -- you won't find Greenday's "American Idiot" on this list, for example. We also made the choice to select albums that despite being nauseating in their politics can actually be enjoyable to listen to -- hence the decision to include a video with each. That's your cookie for having to endure the next ten pages of anti-Americanism as we expose some of music's most politicized albums.

I’m surprised not to see Queensryche on the list.

Trotsky’s assassin, Ramon Mercader, did not use an icepick; he used an ice axe, the sort of thing that an alpine mountain climber uses.

I’ve heard of some of these people, but do not listen to them. Before I retired, I preferred to work with capable musicians. Here’s two I got to play on by Neil Zaza. He’s amazing!

I don’t see it mentioned anywhere in the Neil Young section that he’s Canadian, which would explain a lot.

“Why don’t the presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?”

Um, for one thing, there are more poor people than there are presidents. Wars take a lot of people.

Not an album, but the video for Land of Confusion by Phil Collins was quite leftist and anti-Conservative. Mocked Reagan and Thatcher quite a bit.

They left out “Sandinista!”, a three album set by The Clash.

The thing is: Punk is Anti-establishment. So when Jello goes after Moonbeam, Cash flips off the cameraman at San Quentin, GWAR does their level best to offend everyone, or Bill Hicks goes after George Bush, Sr that is the par for the course.

Also, music is up for interpretation. My favorite music for getting enthused for this election is Rage Against the Machine “Bulls on Parade” - “Rally round your family, pocket full of shells.”

Every time Rush fires up his radio program Chrissy Hynde’s soul dies a little bit. She actually sued to keep Rush from using it back in the day, now she just cashes the royalty check. Hell, the best revenge is using a lefties own music against them. Come to think of it Muse is Glenn Beck’s fav band and in his opening bumper.

Lastly, the Tea Party is the best example of DIY org that I have ever seen. Not that you would get New Music Express to admit that. ConservPunks and South Park Conservatives UNITE! Wilkow rules.

I would have thought Paul Simon would have been up there in at least a couple of spots.

These certainly are NOT the most influential leftist tunes.

I'd say Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" and John Lennon's "Imagine" are tied for first place.

If you doubt that the former is properly interpreted as advocating socialism, consider the oft-omitted verse:

There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;

Sign was painted, it said private property;

But on the back side it didn't say nothing;

This land was made for you and me.

If there's one thing that characterizes the left, it's the abolishment of private property, a sentiment expressly favored by Guthrie's song. Though he denied membership in the CPUSA, Guthrie admitted that he was a communist and he was a contributor to the CPUSA's Daily Worker.

5. “The Resistance” by Muse

Have to go ahead and disagree. More libertarian-anarchist. The Muse guy wants NO borders in Europe, and no European Union, nor government "mind control", etc. Far from classic leftist.

It’s not a list of most influential leftist songs. It’s a collection of leftist albums.

Lastly, the Tea Party is the best example of DIY org that I have ever seen.

Despite the fact of various monies poured into the TP by various conservative groups (which the left will always tell you about), it is still the most grassroots org I've seen too. Mainly, this is because there is no controlling board, no headquarters, no written established identity and platform. It's just a bunch of people who agree with the general theme. I could create a local TP chapter right now with no permission from anyone. I love it.

Wow, here I go on DK again. Can you tell I’m a fan?

Anyway, Holiday in Camodia was about know-it-all kids in this country and their complete cluelessness and compacency about stuff going on Cambodia, mainly Pol Pot’s killing fields.

The Battle of Los Angeles is by far the best album on the list, although I’m not sure why they went with it for the purposes of this list, Rage’s self titled debut would seem a better pick.

Maya is a horrible album, Kala was pretty good though.
