Gulp: New poll shows Murkowski up by double digits

Ed and I have been trying to game out how we’ll handle blogging the late late late night returns on Tuesday from Alaska. I’d been dreading having to post at 4 a.m., but now I’m looking forward to it for the simple reason that waiting on numbers that late will at least mean the race is close.

Eeyoreblogger pessimism status check: Spiking.

The poll, conducted by Dittman Research & Communications, shows Murkowski leading attorney Joe Miller (R), 37 percent to 27 percent, with the Democrat, Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams, in third place with 23 percent. Thirteen percent chose other candidates or were undecided.

Replicating the write-in process in a phone survey can be difficult, but the technique used by pollster Dave Dittman is unique to most public polls of the race. Respondents are first asked an open-ended question about their vote preference, and their choice of candidate is recorded. If the respondent is unable to make a choice, he or she is read the names of the candidates on the ballot, with the option of a write-in candidate. In order to choose Murkowski, the respondent must choose the write-in option and provide her name.

The only poll that counts will be the poll on Tuesday.

I worked in AK as a consultant and I came to realize how Stevens/Murk had their grubby hands in everything and they had bought off half the state.

Anything from that clueless Allahpundit needs to be heavily
screened . He is a dedicated Plain hater.
I still don't understand why Michele Malkin hired him?

I don't know, I think some people might be able to spell Milkowsky right. Good luck to Miller though.

Comment by howIroll on HotAir thread:

Dittman, eh, AP?
Check out Dittman’s poll during the primary in August. 3 weeks out:
Murkowski 61%
Miller 24%

3 days before the election, Dittman’s poll revealed:
Murkowski: 58%
Miller: 47%

Not a good track record, eh?

You may not like AllahPundit, but Power Line has the same story. I think your gripe may be with Dittman Research.

Their wording on the question about Murkowski skewed the results.

Power Line has the same story ... same results. The problem is Dittman Research which worded the Murkowski question oddly to get the result.

Power Line pointed out that the poll question was flawed.

Poweline seems to reprint this phony polls results without questioning them too.

I recall during my visits to Anchorage and Juneau all the people on the street doing petition drives to prevent Gov Murk from appointing his kid to the senate.
It was a very unpopular move so all this so called support seems like a bold faced lie.

Power Line DID question them. They pointed out that the polling entity skewed the results in favor of Murkowski by the wording of the question. Power Line says it’s BOGUS!

Sheesh!

I agree that they pointed that out but I am little burned out on these blogs that seem to ignore the real issue which is the source of these non stop push polls.

They left out the important points like Dittman is part of the Murk/Stevens machine ( he is a former employee) and his GOP primary polling were all pro Murk and way off.

If you and I can goggle and find these facts out then why does Powerline leave them out ?

As I tell my kids they should always consider the source of any information or poll in this case.
