  • Murkowski: I Relied On Democrats And Independents To Win

"Joe Miller was -- was clearly appealing to that more conservative element. But, in our state, we have got -- we have got over 54 percent of the electorate that chooses not to align themselves with any party at all, not Republican, not Democrat, not Green, not anything," Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) told PBS.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) -- Alaska's Republican party is asking nominee Joe Miller to concede the U.S. Senate race to incumbent Lisa Murkowski. State GOP chair Randy Ruedrich says the party "stands ready to embrace" Murkowski as "Alaska's only Republican U.S. senator." He called on Miller to respect the will of the voters and to "end his campaign in a dignified manner."

As the number of ballots left to count dwindles toward zero, staffers for U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's historic write-in campaign are looking forward to the moment they can declare victory over Joe Miller. "By the end of the day today anyone with simple arithmetic skills can draw some conclusions," said Murkowski campaign manager Kevin Sweeney. "By the end of the day tomorrow the count will actually be done so the campaign can make a declaration." The Miller campaign continues to insist that the race is "far from over." In a Tuesday morning press release Miller spokesman Randy DeSoto compared the...

In addition to potential theft of elected office I see in various parts of the country, the debacle in Alaska is turning my stomach. Lisa Murkowski has shown that she is unworthy of any serious consideration as an elected official. Other than democrats, I’m actually shocked that any appreciable number of Alaskans voted for her. She is the next self-promoting loser in the parade of blue-blood republicans willing to do whatever it takes to stay attached to the government teat. It is behavior I expect in a liberal socialist, not a republican. Specter, Crist, and now Murkowski all put “self”...

Lisa Murkowski attacks Sarah Palin and the Tea Party, calling Alaska her state and bragging of the fact that she and her supporters were able to make their own decisions regarding who to send to the Senate. In a brief interview with Fox News’ Dan Springer at quarter to midnight Alaska time, Murkowski was clearly enthusiastic and in a celebrating mood. Looking energized, Murkowski saw fit to take some potshots at Palin and the organic movement of the Tea Party as a whole, casting them both as outsiders who really didn’t have any business in trespassing in her state and...

Here we go....currently she would need 90% of the write ins to count for her to win. Wonder what would have happend if the Senate Rinos didn't coddle her after the primary....

The money quote: “I’m not my party’s nominee right now. In a way, that’s really very liberating – to know that I’m going back, truly representing all of Alaska’s interests, not necessarily just my party.” If you’re wondering why she’s suddenly flirting with full independence after insisting all along that she’ll remain a Republican, let PPP help you out. Final poll: Miller 37, Murkowski 30, McAdams 30. It appears that Murkowski will lose this race. There are 2 main reasons for that. The first is that she retained little goodwill from Republicans after deciding to make an independent bid. Only...

McAdams is by far the most popular with 50% rating him favorably to only 30% with an unfavorable one. Voters aren't...

After several rough weeks on the campaign trail, a new poll out of Alaska shows Republican Joe Miller has fallen to last place in the three-way Senate race. A Hays Research Group poll released Thursday showed write-in candidates, presumably meaning Sen. Lisa Murkowski, in the lead with 34 percent, Democrat Scott McAdams with 29 percent and Miller with 23 percent. Murkowski is waging a write-in bid since losing the Republican primary to Miller.

Sarah Palin took aim at Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski late Friday evening, after a phone call from the senator’s camp resulted in the suspension of a local conservative radio talk show host. Palin charged on her Facebook page that one of Murkowski’s “hired guns threatened” radio personality Dan Fagan, who encouraged hundreds of Alaskans to file as write-in candidates Thursday afternoon just hours before the filing deadline – a development that was seen as a blow to the senator’s write-in candidacy. Murkowski’s media buyer, John Tracy, called Fagan’s radio station Friday to tell the station manager that he believed the...

Ed and I have been trying to game out how we’ll handle blogging the late late late night returns on Tuesday from Alaska. I’d been dreading having to post at 4 a.m., but now I’m looking forward to it for the simple reason that waiting on numbers that late will at least mean the race is close. Eeyoreblogger pessimism status check: Spiking. The poll, conducted by Dittman Research & Communications, shows Murkowski leading attorney Joe Miller (R), 37 percent to 27 percent, with the Democrat, Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams, in third place with 23 percent. Thirteen percent chose other candidates...

*** The Palin question: In that three-way Alaska Senate race, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie noted on “TODAY” that the candidates were asked in their debate last night if Sarah Palin was qualified to be president. Here’s how Scott McAdams (D) answered the question: "In a strict sense she is, she isn't somebody whose ideology I support and agree with.” Here’s Joe Miller (R): “Of course she is. I mean, you look at who we have in office right now and compare the two, there is no comparison." (That is a much stronger answer from Miller than we’ve seen previously, and Palin...

Not only does Lisa Murkowski question Joe Miller on how his West Point instructors and classmates would say he’s lived up to his military code of honor, but she goes on in the second half of the clip to deem him ‘not fit to lead’; only to hear as a reaction loud boos from the audience.
