What is happening in the West Virginia Senate Race (Vanity)
October 29,2010 | no dems

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on in the Senate Race in West Virginia? It was a given a few weeks ago that Raese would win and we could put the seat held by Robert Byrd for a thousand years, in the GOP column on Election Night. Now, Manchin is up 4 points in the latest Rasmussen Poll.

What happened? Is there a Freeper on here who is convinced that Raese will still win this thing?

Tonight on Bill O'Reilly, Rasmussen confirmed Manchin's 4 point lead. If we lose WV, it might be a long night for our team.

no dems I believe Manchin has lead in the polls the entire time. Many were surprised that John Raese could even move in striking distance. Here is what Real Clear Politics shows:

Poll Date Sample Manchin (D) Raese (R) Spread
RCP Average 10/8 - 10/26 — 47.8 43.0 Manchin +4.8
Rasmussen Reports 10/26 - 10/26 750 LV 49 46 Manchin +3
PPP (D) 10/23 - 10/24 1246 LV 50 44 Manchin +6
Marshall Univ/Orion Strategies (D) 10/11 - 10/12 450 LV 48 38 Manchin +10
CNN/Time 10/8 - 10/12 783 LV 44 44 Tie

West Virginia is 2/3rd’s Democrat, but they also hate Obama. Something of a dichotomy there.

“What happened? Is there a Freeper on here who is convinced that Raese will still win this thing?”

What happened. Manchin ran a bunch of ads pretending to repudiate Obama, Health care and Cap and Trade. Convinced? No. But we could easily pull this out. It’s all a matter of turnout. It would be nice to take the seat as WV will be seated immediately. So that seat will be in a blocking or facilitating position for all the nonsense that is coming in the lame duck session. Manchin will facilitate as much nonsense as he thinks he can get away with. Without him, we wont take the Senate. But that was always a mondo-long-shot anyway.

That one ad of Manchin shooting at the ‘cap and trade’ target seems to have been even more powerful than it seemed at first. And it went unanswered as far as I’ve heard.

The GOP (we can say in hindsight) should have countered immediately by showing how Manchin’s appointee to the seat voted in lockstep with Reid and Obama’s agenda; so will Manchin if WV entrusts him with their vote.

It’s still within the Margin of error.

Turnout, it’s all about turnout.

Palin and Nugent in West Virginia tomorrow with Raese!

And yes, I still believe Raese is going to win it.

No, Raece was ahead for quite some time.

Look at RCP again.

FOX News/POR-Rasmussen 10/23 - 10/23 1000 LV 46 48 Raese +2
Rasmussen Reports 10/19 - 10/19 750 LV 43 50 Raese +7
FOX News/POR-Rasmussen 10/16 - 10/16 1000 LV 45 48 Raese +3
Rasmussen Reports 10/12 - 10/12 750 LV 46 49 Raese +3

Isn't 4 points considered a statistical tie?

It was NEVER a given Raese would win.

I’m sorry to say this, but the people in WVA are politically pretty stupid.

It only took Manchin a couple of commercials and some help from MSNBC claiming West Virginians should be offended by the “hicky” ad to turn his poll numbers around and move into the lead.

And once West Virginians put a Democrat in power, they will reelect that Democrat till they die. So if Manchin gets in, he will be a WVA Senator for the rest of his life.

It was never a 'given.' No idea where you are getting this.

Manchin is loved as Governor. Why is Reaes not using this to his advantage??? He should continually state that Virginia is better served with Manchin as Governor and not in Washington????? If he would use this tactic, it would work.

Either those sources were overstating things, or you are overstating things.

This was never a lock for the GOP. In fact, it’s pretty much been an uphill battle for a while now.

Hope we can pull it out, though.

Manchin’s ad team is just brilliant. I think he is likely to win.

Manchin morphed into a Conservative 3 weeks ago. After the election he will go back to being a liberal Barak Obama butt kisser. People in WVa are about to get hoodwinked on the KKK Byrd seat.

It is far from over. A good add reminding the people of WV that Manchin truly supports Obama would turn it right back around in my opinion. I am sure one is forthcoming.
