Scratch 'n Sniff Mailers: Loretta Sanchez Smells Bad
Oct 25 2010, 1:40 PM ET
The Hotline reports that, in the ethnically charged race for California's 47th congressional district, scratch 'n sniff mailers are being deployed to insinuate that incumbent Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D) is smelly:
Assemb. Van Tran (R) "is sending out a scratch-and-sniff direct mail piece attacking" Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D) "that features a hideous odor emanating from it."
The mailer: "Open for a fragrance sample of 'Loretta, The Scent Of Washington.'" The mailer, on the inside: "Something smells rotten about Loretta. It's the stench of Washington." "Below that is the scratch and sniff panel."
**SNIP**
UPDATE: A GOP aide informs me that "it is a horrible odor--like a combination of 5 or 6 of the worst possible scents you can imagine."

The Buzz: Van Tran mailer raises big stink about Loretta Sanchez

Calif. candidate mails scratch-and-sniff attack ad
Funny ... but a serious waste of cash, but as it will mostly just make folks annoyed with Mr. Tran, it will probably backfire.
I wonder how this kooky idea will play with the average voter in her district?
I would’ve preferred something that was much more simpleif you want higher taxes vote for Loretta Sanchez (fake name)
If you want medical care that you can’t afford, vote for Loretta Sanchez
If you want electrical bills that you can afford to pay for, vote for Obama and Loretta Sanchez
etc

How can I describe the smell of this mailer Jane? Let me see, it smelled like a skunk climbeded up a guys rear end and thenna died and hadda beena there for a month!
You never know about the subliminal stuff. They may just unconsciously associate a bad odor with Sanchez. Who knows? But the whole idea, to me, stinks.
And - it will be deemed racist before the end of the day as well.
They all stink anyway.
“If you want electrical bills that you can afford to pay for, vote for Obama and Loretta Sanchez”
Uhh, I dont’t think Obama and Sanchez will lower your electric bill;) , although they might make the trains run on time/s;)
Somehow, I think Loretta’s a big-time smoker anyway, maybe cigars...I could picture her reeking of stale smoke....
Only whites can be racist, Van Trahn has not yet recieved his honorary whiteness degree from the Left, yet.
True ‘dat - he will first be accused of attacking a fellow minority - like a white would do and then be charged with being a racist - just like a white person.
There is the greatest commercial running out of the twin cities it shows kids having candy taken out of their bags it then shows a state trooper who says thats what will happen to your money if dayton is elected he says dayton thinks he and his wife who is a nurse are rich and they are not. I tried finding the video but wasn’t able to it is just a really good one. Anyone know how to find it? Would love for all to see it.
Stupid idea, and it will be called racist.
Typo
Corrected 30 seconds later
Sorry!!!
The person who discovered it, Louis Claude Cadet de Gassicourt, described how, after thoroughly washing the glass vessel in which he had prepared the compound, and then letting it "air out" outdoors for six months, the flask still smelled of cacodyl.
Talk about snatching defeat from a decent opportunity for victory, this has got to be the worst expenditure of campagin cash and one of the all time stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard. “Hey, let’s annoy the hell out of any undecided voters by mailing them something foul-smelling at the last minute. Yeah! That’s the ticket! Of course that’ll make them vote for me!” Are you kidding me? This alone would make me question his judgment as a congressman. The consultant who came up with this idea should be fired.
No one’s going to smell it anyway. Like all political mailers, it goes directly into the trash.
In terms of getting the spotlight on the candidate, it appears to be wildly effective. Isn't that what the campaign is spending money on? Who doesn't think the current bunch in D.C. stinks?
