Matthews' Strange Election Metaphor: Dems Like Bowie's Men At Alamo
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

This could go down as the strangest simile of the election season . . .

Introducing this evening's Hardball, Chris Matthews likened the electoral plight of Democrats to the Battle of the Alamo, "as seen from inside the mission." In other words, Matthews casts the Dems as Jim Bowie's Americans, fighting a hopeless battle against the Mexicans, in which role Chris casts . . . the Republicans!

It’s more like their Waterloo. Their Kursk. Their Battle of Midway. Their Dien Ben Phu.

Chrissy, for your own safety I woud advise you to never say that while in Texas.

More like the ‘DemonRATS’ are Santa Ana and his men and the Republicans are Sam Houston and his men at San Jacinto!

The funniest part is that Matthews thinks any of his dozens of viewers actually know something about the Alamo.

1) None of them believe in anything worth dying for.
2) As long as they’re out of the way, I don’t care if they’ve overestimated their role in history.

Leftist idiots such as Chris Matthews are on the wrong side of history because they’re on the wrong side of the American people. We don’t want European nanny-state socialism and we won’t tolerate elitist, leftist politicians that consider us bumpkins, sneer at us and then expect to be re-elected. I can’t wait to see little Chrissy Matthews cry on-air Tuesday night.

Beyond the bad analogy, Chris needs a lesson in Texas history.

Bowie was not in charge at the Alamo. I know just the Texas history (San Antonio area) homeschool teacher who might be able to give the hapless Matthews a decent education (but since she is a Conservative, it might cost him more than a “Harvard” education).

As usual, Matthews has it wrong.

The real Alamo crowd are in fact the congressional conservatives fighting a delaying action since 2008.

The “Battle of San Jacinto” will be tomorrow. And the victory will be every bit as complete.

Texans know what I mean.

Hey Chrissy - why don’t you, Ed Shultz and Rachael Maddow combine forces? Can you imagine the media powerhouse that would be? Literally dozens of viewers, watching a single show! The poor folks at Nielsen would have a coronary...

Exactly. The heirs of William Travis might have a thing or two to discuss with Chrissie. And I’m not even a Texan.
