ENTHUSIASTIC baseball fans have revelled in San Francisco following the World Series win of the city's Giants.
Fistfights broke out and a mattress went up in flames in the Mission District as riot police tried to control what officers officially declared an "unlawful assembly", the Contra Costa Times reported.
People flooded the South of Market district around AT&T Park within minutes of the final pitch before the San Francisco Giants beat the Texas Rangers. Crowds gathered in the streets, obstructing traffic, and spraying champagne and beer.
Police found a car with slashed tires and a smashed windshield in the Mission District and firefighters were treating a person who was in the passenger seat, apparently unconscious.

Things sure have changed, and not for the better.

Exactly. That’s actually a slow night in Hunter’s Point!
Well, Philly's worse.
But that's not saying much.
A particular set of Giants fans have always been somewhat obnoxious. Back in the 80s at the Stick, there was a fenced area in left field. When the Dodgers were in town, drunken fans would jump down from the bleachers, run down by the fence, and chuck batteries at the Dodger left fielder. This was done only at night games...the day game crowd was a different, more civilized bunch.
Eventually, they had to close off that area to fans.
Please tell me that was sarcasm. Anyone still giving Rove kudos should be banned from FR...
It’s particular parts *ahem* of S.F. where the violence occurs.
One time, I was headed into the City after an extra inning game, and I foolishly chose to go straight up through Hunter’s Point in the very late afternoon. Traffic was bad, and kids were running out from between houses and throwing rocks at the cars.

Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, years ago, about sports rioters.
“I told the guy, why did you turn that car over and set it on fire? He kinda looked at me sheepishly and said...’’Niners’...”
And it happens when teams lose too; riots in Oakland when Raiders lost the Super Bowl
It was sarcasm, but give Rove his due for what he accomplished a few years ago (even if it was all for naught). He saved us from an Al Gore presidency.
