Voter turnout heavier than usual
By AP/Carl Bookmark and Share

Voter turnout so far on the Election Day is being described as very good.

WDEL’s Allan Loudell, who has been visiting polling places on Election Day for two decades, says turnout today may be the higest he’s seen for a mid-term election. Allan says today’s turnout is more like a Presidential election year.

well, that’s just what I think. I’m not in Del and don’t have any inside info.
Heck, there don’t seem to be any busy political blogs in the state to mine for info!

Here’s a report on Coons’ “voter intimidation” claim that Delawareonline rushed out:

Delaware Dems claim GOP intimidation, worry about turnout
By Shane D’Aprile - 11/02/10 03:00 PM ET

Delaware’s state Democratic Party is claiming that supporters of Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell are creating problems at some polling locations in the state.

This, as the campaign of Democrat Chris Coons e-mails supporters expressing concerns over turnout levels in the Democratic bastion of New Castle County.

In an e-mail to supporters early Tuesday afternoon, Coons campaign manager Christy Gleason wrote that the campaign was observing “lower turnout in New Castle and Kent counties than we’re comfortable with.”

New Castle County is the northernmost county in the state, as well as the region where Coons was banking on running up his vote total to offset highly energized Republicans in Kent and Sussex counties, less populous areas of the state.

Meanwhile, the state’s commissioner of elections, Elaine Manlove, confirmed to The Ballot Box that after receiving several complaints from voters at polling stations Tuesday, she contacted the O’Donnell campaign and asked that it direct its supporters to tone down their efforts.

She said O’Donnell backers were crowding the exterior of several polling places in anticipation of the candidate’s arrival, which briefly restricted access for some voters.

“The campaign was basically sending out advance teams to polling places to form crowds before [O’Donnell] got there to greet voters,” said Manlove. “My issue with that is that at some places they were blocking the sidewalk and voters need to have access to polling places at all times.”

Manlove also said she has received several complaints that cheering O’Donnell supporters can be heard inside some voting locations.

“Even if they’re standing outside that 50-foot line, if the noise can be heard within the polling place, it’s still a violation,” she said. “It’s the same as taking a bullhorn and yelling ‘vote for my candidate.’ “

Manlove said since she contacted the O’Donnell campaign, complaints to the state’s board of elections have dried up.

The O’Donnell campaign was not immediately available for comment.

The O’Donnell supporters must ‘cease and desist” from rallying too loud because voters can hear them.

ROFLOL!!! That’s a hoot! Are the “O’Donnell supporters” also wearing Black Panther gear and weilding clubs?

Sheesh, the Coons folks sure are sensitive, huh?

The Coons supporters don’t like being reminded about what it’s like to vote for someone they actually like. Seeing Christine get support just makes em feel bad.

enthusiastic supporters don’t play as badly as menacing black panthers

GOP Campaign Source: Delaware Turnout is Low -a Good Sign for O'Donnell- Coons Worried

"The key in Delaware is the number 300,000. If the vote total is significantly below that, Christine could very well win a close victory. She got 140,509 votes against Biden in 2008. In the Primary, the undecideds broke for Christine. Will that happen again? "

>>>Beau Biden I think would rather run against Christine<<<

Just a thought - Biden is running WITHOUT Republican opposition - BUT there is a good Independent (whom I did vote for - and have heard of MANY others who did too) - well, wonder IF maybe he beats Beau....

That would be SWEET!

yeah it would.

What is it like on the ground in Delaware today?

If you’ve got anecdotes, a lot of people would like to hear em.

>>>All I’m saying is that the Biden family is a powerful force in Delaware<<<

Hmmmm, and he drew less than 200 at a rally for Coons and Christine had over 1,000...

Joe called for unions to turn out en-mass for door to door last week - 10 showed from the largest union and most of them were employees and officials....

We’ll see...

Reports from Sussex are huge turnouts - passing 50% about 2 PM in at least two polling places.

Old die-hard Democrat leaving poll told known Republican friend -’We really have to stop what’s going on in Washington’ shook his head and walked to car...

Didn’t say it, but I would read that as a possible vote for Christine and Glen... We shall see...

My polling place at 10 AM was about twice as busy as it was in 2006 when I was there... But keep in mind, my polling place voted 225 Christine and 52 Castle in the primary. (in the interest of full disclosure).

Talked to a couple of New Castle voters - both said that it was pretty dead at their polls - low turnout.

Everything you’ve said points to good news for Christine. Those are the signs we’re looking for. Excellent turnout in Sussex, low turnout in New Castle, and Dems seemingly voting for Christine.

I’ve read a few of these articles “let’s talk to 4 or 8 voters” and those aren’t helpful. Even if they had to wait for hours, they’d talk to the Democrats they want for their story. Not to say that it would be all that hard, really, with the sheer numbers of people.

We’ll see...

My point was that the Bidens can control Coons, not that they can control turnout.

>>>We got thoroughly creamed. What happened?<<<

Geeesh... Did my part - 705 Christine 257 Coons in my voting district...

New Castle was the juggernaut that we didn’t get.

Same with the House - Urquhart got creamed also.

Can we cut some bridges and declare this the State of Delmarva? Give everything North of the canal to PA...

I wasn’t blaming or anything. That’s good results, down in Sussex. Yeah, the New Castle results were really bad.

I guess the question that I might have is how could all of our guessing be so far off?

I think there should be a state called I-95, or called whatever, and it includes 1-95 from DC to Boston - 10 miles on each side of it. And it would require some trading. Long Island could be part of it. From NY to Boston, I-95 to the coast, and 10 miles on the other side.

Yes, George Lemieux was appointed by Gov. Charlie Twist to serve the remainder of Mel Martinez' term. Marco begins his term in January.

Funny thing about Lemieux - he took the job to hold the seat until Charlie could run.

So much for those plans...
