Another Stunner - GOP Takes Maine Gov, House And Senate
Portland Press Herald, Maine | 11-3-10 | various

For the first time in decades, the GOP wrestled control of the Governorship, the State Senate AND the State House away from the Democrats.

Pretty amazing.

It will get less press than the House and Senate races, but the rebuilding of the farm system through the Governorships and state houses may be the most critical development in this election. The difficulties the GOP had starting in ‘06 had their infancy probably as far back as the late 1990’s and certainly after the election of President Bush. Governorships and state houses were lost depleting our ability to put strong candidates into position for national races.

The Tea Party movement has played a significant role in producing a new set of candidate for future runs at the Senate and White House.

GOP Gov-Elect LePage won because the Dem dropped like a stone (20%) and the strong independent (Cutler) got 37%. If either dropped out, LePage would have gotten smoked.

Academic now but in a 2 way race I think LePage would have prevailed over Mitchell as a lot of people viewed her as too extreme for the governorship. Cutler, in spite of being liberal, seems to have had an aura of moderation and he may have bested Paul in a 2-way.

The last time the GOP won the House in Maine was indeed 1972 (although coming close in the past decade), and tied the Senate as recently as 2001-03 (when the Dems and GOP rotated positions as Senate President), and the last time they won it outright was 1994. But the GOP hasn’t apparently won the legislature AND the Governorship at the same time since 1962.

Next door in NH, it was a monster GOP BLOWUP!

It ure was a tsunami!!Woo hoo! The only one to survive was the faux moderate governor (Felons For) Lynch.

We took back House and Senate in a huge historic way... Veto proof in the House, and Super Majority in the Senate. And the Dems controlled both when the night started. LOL!

NC won big this way too, as did TN It wasn't just national that conservatives won.

What a FANTASTIC night for Republicans in Tennessee!! Tennessee has gained 14 seats in the STATE House and 1 in the Senate. For the first time in history, Republicans control the House, Senate with a Republican Governor!! Congrats to all our candidates.

me too. This might end up being the bigger story than a gridlocked Congress.

Maine and Wisconsin flipped too?

Yes, 1962 sound right.

The results were a complete surprise. I will have better data later today but I understand for the state house no incumbent Republican lost, 16 Democrat incumbents losts and 6 open seats were won by Republicans.

In one night Maine turned from a very blue state to purple or even light red.

Yes, except the Dummies in Dallas voted Dems back in and we have Eddie Bernice Johnson who stole 30,000+ in scholarship money and just got reelected. IDIOTS!

2011 redistricting for the 2010 elections will have a very BAD effect on a lot of the gerrymandered districts across this country.

16 seats ? That’s better than the 13 or 14 we did in TN (where we now have nearly a 2-to-1 majority in the State House).

I'm confused. I just got off the phone with the Lepage HQ and they said the state is still counting votes. Inland districts still need to be counted which is good for us and Lepage has a slim lead but Cutler has not given in.

Has someone in the state called the election for Lepage?
