Las Vegas (AP) - Republicans said for months that if the Nevada Senate race was a referendum on Harry Reid, the unpopular Majority Leader would lose. Reid didn't let that happen. He adeptly painted opponent Sharron Angle as an extremist immediately after she won her primary -- and proceeded to make the contest as much about her awkward and unconventional statements as Reid's own troubles.
Then he deployed his secret weapon: a powerful turnout machine that brought Democratic and Hispanic voters out to the polls in droves.
Reid's relentless TV ad assault against Angle and his powerful get-out-the-vote effort were huge factors in his no-holds-barred victory over Angle on a day when Republicans seized control of the House and gained Senate seats.
Talking with reporters Wednesday, Reid pointed to Angle's proposal to privatize Social Security as a defining contrast between them. He calls it one of the great government programs in history.
Reid's first negative TV ad of the campaign, put up just days after the June primary, portrayed Angle as a heartless budget-slasher who would abandon the elderly. "Sharron Angle wants to wipe out Social Security," a narrator intoned darkly. "What's next?"
Angle argued that she wanted to make changes only for younger workers, but the damage was done.

1. No GOP ground game in Nevada.
2. Unions.
3. Reno Rinos for Reid.
And just why are Harry’s campaign illegalities not being challenged by the GOP??? I mean free meals, gift cards, asking unions to email their employees, telling them how to vote. This at least needs to be made an issue on the floor of the Senate!!!
Just like OJ Harry will get his just reward. . . . . .
I wonder what effect the mysterious power failure had to play in his amazing overnight come from behind victory?
He stole it, of course.
At least we can now go after the Reid-Obama agenda, instead of the Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda.
Don’t forget we got rid of Pelosi, who was way more powerful than Reid, and Reid’s power has been diminshed - let him try to get anymore socialist policies through the Senate, with 21 Senate DemocRats up for re-election in 2012.
It is really a shame to see such a beautiful state go completely to the dogs.. I still wonder how much criminals activity was done to get this old fart reelected..
I am also curious about the power failure. And whether they will have areas in which more than 100% of registered voters supposedly voted. I hope someone is looking into these issues.
C-H-E-A-T-I-N-G.
Having the SEIU preprogram a few hundred thousand voting machines to vote for Dingy Harry certainly didn’t hurt!
Obama is right on one thing. Stay out of Vegas. It’s like the Democrats, Pretty at night then you wake up in the morning and find your wallet empty and the city looks like a dump.
Harrah’s management bussed their employees to the polls to vote for Hairy Reed.
Reid’s win is the best thing for the GOP. The impression will be that him and O are responsible for failures from now until the 2012 election.
Stay completely away from Nevada Casino towns!
Las Vegas, Laughlin, Reno, etc.
I wanted to see Reid go down in flames but there are some definite advantages to having him still in place:
1) he’s an ineffective, fossilized leader who will be the “face” of so much that’s wrong with the Demagogues over the next 2, 4, 6 years
2) getting to a bare majority in the Senate with RINOs like the sob sisters from Maine and Mr. Grahamnesty holding key votes would have been worse than useless on many issues
3) related to #1, Reid is utterly incapable of leading any movement or ‘selling’ liberal ideas on a national scale
4) we need to replace a lot of ‘Rat senators in 2012 before we can do anything effective in the Senate — the seats that were up this year strongly favored the Demagogues overall and it’s better to let Reid flail about for two more years as a castrated Majority Leader
The people of Nevada spoke. If they want a lying cheating thieving sack of monkey shit to be the person that represents them they got that.........
Just one added touch, otherwise perfect. :)
No, Clark County screwed the rest of us!
No more Vegas for me....
