Bachmann bid for GOP leadership gets cool reaction (Boehner about to pull a 'boner' ?)

WASHINGTON – Self-proclaimed tea party leader Michele Bachmann's bid for a top Republican post in the House received a cool reaction Thursday from Speaker-to-be John Boehner, an early test of how GOP leaders will treat the antiestablishment movement's winners in Tuesday's elections.

"Constitutional conservatives deserve a loud and clear voice in leadership!" Bachmann, R-Minn., who founded the Tea Party Caucus, said in a one-paragraph Facebook announcement that she is running for GOP conference chairman.

House Republican leaders don't disagree. But that doesn't mean they want the hyperbolic Bachmann being a spokeswoman for the new majority during the 2012 election cycle.

Boehner, aware of the role tea partiers played in making him the next House speaker, is endorsing no one. His lieutenants are lining up behind Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, leaving no doubt that Hensarling — and not Bachmann — is the leadership favorite to chair the GOP conference.

"There are few who have done as much for the Republican team as Jeb," the expected House majority leader, Eric Cantor of Virginia, said in a statement.

I looked at it all...and no he did not say either way, rather it is a good thing he lets the dust settle first...I am confident Boehner understands completely the Tea Party will be represented....there are after all a slew of them heading to Washington! This will go pretty good I think, in lining up who does what and where.

We get to vote for the candidates. We don’t get to vote on who they pick for roles in the Congress.

I think Michelle would be a fine choice though.

I do believe there is exceptional female talent available in the Republican Party; and it should be recognized, encouraged and cultivated.

I don’t believe in quotas either.

If Palin wins the WH in ‘12 , VeeeP Bachmann, her AG,, Ann Coulter,, Secy of State, John Bolton, There’s a few good men still lyin’ around. ;-)

“If Conservatives are to survive they need to, in the next two years expand and build on the Tea Party”

True. I was breathing a big sigh because of Tuesday’s wins, but now realize that the Tea Party’s work just started this year, and that we have to be twice as strong and visible for the next two years. It’s the only way to make headway.

I hear ya, the House and Senate are like unmoored casino ships offshore the continental US.. and almost as profitable too. they set their own rules. Sure was nice to get the glass ceiling thingy out of the way a long time ago.. much success to her and others climbing the pile.

You do realize that she is the kind of person that would censor harry potter books over references to witchcraft.

That's ironic, given your tagline in that posting.

(As well as untrue.)

Cheers!

I'd vote her into the Speaker role if I was you, John, You being a TEAm player and all.. ;-)

Whoa, there, Norm. You just inspired a Vanity. I've got two or three to write tonight, and it's getting late.

Cheers!

Similar arguments were made so that Bob Dole could run on the Republican ticket for President.

If we only could recall how that worked out...............

"Similar arguments were made so that Bob Dole could run on the Republican ticket for President."

Bob dole was old and weak and looked it standing next to Clinton. When he stumbled and fell, Americans winced and said "no thanks". Boehner is nothing like Dole.

"If we only could recall how that worked out..............."

let's recall how well Palin worked out the last time...... while we're recalling past Republican failures.

Good point, McGavin999. These are very emotional times, and I, for one, don’t take any of the tripe from the alphabet “news” whores, or apeeee as serious news. But, you are right, also, the crooked bastards yank our chains. Cautious Optimism is the word of the day.

Never forget the most notable characteristic of the Republican Party is its uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Or shoot themselves in the foot with an unloaded gun.Or fall down the stairs on a level floor. etc, etc. ;-(

Palin worked our fantastic, like Reagan her influence has continued to this day.

Her sidekick, I forget his name, didn't though. It seems he was also picked because he had 'paid his dues'. Fortunately for him, his dignity was saved by a newcomer.

Bob Dole should of asked Phizer for something to stiffen his backbone instead of his frontbone. ;-)

Boehner is the most powerful Republican in America and he has earned his position over decades of steadfast comittment to conservative principles unlike Bachmann who was lucky enough ride the right wave into shore. He doesn’t need to get out of any freshman’s way and I think it more than a little bit absurd to insist that he does. Democrats will certainly try to exploit this perceived “split” within the party. We should not promote such stupidity. Boehner’s conservatism is tested and true. We should be rallying behind him, not undermining him...

I'll do you a favor and assume you're a troll...no one can be that stupid.

Might want to educate yourself on Michele Bachmann and report back to us...

Exactly. Bachmann has earned our loyalty, and shown she is smart and fearless. We're long past giving someone the benefit of the doubt.

A conservative voting record proves a conservative politician. We're not talking about that...we're talking about who will lead.

Another primary season and this point will be moot.

The GOP needs the Tea Party, but the Tea Party does not need the GOP.

An important and clear distinction! However, we do need the GOP shell as a party base. Let Rove and the rest of the old GOP go form a third party if they don't like it.
