Thanks for the ground truth report. We need to spend more time aborbing the message instead of just attacking the messenger here.

Something we all will need to do in 2012 to get this country back on the right track.

That’s another thing I like about electronic voting. Nothing can be spoiled. It’s fairly idiot proof. If they submit a bad vote, it’s done and that’s that.

Sorry, but I don’t consider critiques of failed campaigns to be the work of liberals. A liberal would want us not to learn from our mistakes so that we would repeat them next time around.

I vote on the same type of machines as in Vegas and the rest of Nevada. When you check in at the polling place the poll worker takes your ID(typically your sample ballot which has a bar code or your voter registration card or your state issued ID. They cannot demand your specific ID.) they then enter your info into a notebook computer which confirms you are at the right polling place and that you are a registered voter. It also tells the rest of the voting system that you have (or will) voted. They then issue you a credit card size card and in my County a double end eraser pencil. You then proceed to the touchscreen voting machine and put your card in. The screen comes up and asks you if you want Engrish or Spanish. Side bar - I have voted on these machine at least 6 times.

The first thing I noticed about voting this time is that the screen change rate on the machine had increased dramatically from the last time I voted in the Spring. When you select Engrish if you double tap like your would in Windows to open a program the machine steps to the next screen very fast - guess which candidate is directly under the word “English” - that is right Harry Reid. So in one split second you have opened the screen to the first candidate page and selected Reid. AFTER your are done voting of which there were about 6 pages in my County you then hit a CONFIRM button and review your selections on about three screens. THEN you can hit print and a paper print out on a tape comes up on the right side of the machine. You can REVIEW there before you cast your vote. The machine retains the printout. You then have to select “cast my ballot” before the machine records the vote. You then remove the card and return it to the poll worker. The machine cancels the card when you cast your vote.

I tried it in another machine about three years ago and it would not take it. One item of note all of the video I saw from Vegas showed people using their fingers on the touchscreen. I suspect it is even easier to accidentally select Reid.

I am not saying there was not tampering but it would be very difficult to do the rest of the system is very secure with many checks and balances. It was initially set up by Dean Heller a Rep and a very good guy.

You won’t regret it and we need it.

I’d like to see a thousand FReepers from each state attend.

You’d be surprised at how easy it is to win, if you run a good campaign.

Excuses, like we are hearing here in IL governor’s race re: Brady’s loss, ring hollow. You have to manage your image as well as your opponents.

Brady didn’t do that.

Thanks for the interesting breakdown on that race. Fortunately for Gerlach, Meehan and Fitzpatrick, that GOTV effort must have been largely confined to Phila. city and the NE.

Re: Rove. He justified his remarks by saying that FNC pays him to be an analyst and to speak his mind and that’s what he did. He may have gone over the top.

O”Donell would have lost even if Rove had been her chief cheerleader, IMO. She was a deeply flawed candidate in a deep blue state - a losing combo if there ever was one.

Look, we can try to analyze and critique past campaigns all we want but trying to explain wins or losses by pointing to aspects of the campaign or individual candidate is pointless. There are just too many variables.

The real problems lay with us the people. We have allowed 20% or less of the population to force us into capitulation and haven’t spoken up and stood our ground. Look at comments even here in this forum for instance. Supposedly this is where the conservative of the conservatives meet. Still there are negative comments about our candidates that plant seeds of doubt. Then there are those, typically not in this forum, who claim to be Christian but still vote for candidates who have pro choice or outright pro abortion or pro gay voting records.

We, the people, need to understand that even the Pastors, Priests, and Rabbi’s don’t stand firm on Biblical principles and must hold them accountable. If we don’t the base of moral voters is going to continue to erode.

It’s “we the people” who need to hold each other accountable if we are to build a base of voters who stand on principle and that needs to be done long before candidates are chosen and campaigns are started.

I personally know that high-level state Republican leaders who supported the news gal sat on their hands during the general. It may be that Sharron never asked them for help.

Schwartz had the warchest in reserve ($3 million) to go all out on GOTV - she was hiring what I called smurfs (college grads in campaign t-shirts) by the busload and was even advertising on Craigslist for canvassers. She hit her Dem base hard in SE Montco and NE Philly. Also, Perzel went down in NE Philly, that took a lot of GOTV, and the Dems in Brady's and Fattah's districts probably were worked hard to come out for Sestak even though those are truly safe districts for Dems (Brady had no opponent, Fattah's was grossly underfunded).

Heck, GOP core voters got two robocalls on Monday for Schwartz from Bill Clinton. That is a GOTV full-court press to be calling the other party's primary voters. Money apparently was no object.

“Once again, please point out SPECIFICS that you disagree with...”

OK, here is one of mine:

“But the rebuff created a loathing by the press,”

Sorry, but NOTHING Angle did created loathing in the press. It was there before she won the nomination, and would be there for any strong conservative.

Angle’s problem was two-fold:

1) “Moderate” republicans won’t vote for a conservative Republican. Their loyalty is one-way, and then they criticize us if we aren’t enthusiastic about their Demo-lite candidates.

2) Reid had the unions, and all the votes he needed were in Las Vegas. Las Vegas has always been corrupt. Unions are corrupt. And they were bought and paid for with public money. Just as in my home district, the unions get the vote out because lower taxes and a freer country directly reduces their income.

And I disagree with that premise. Mistakes are expensive, and we need to learn from them so we don't repeat them.

We know the factors arranged against us. We can't wish them away. We have to instead out-orgainize the Dems at their own game, the way the Bush 2004 campaign did.

Nah these were the same arguments and people who were bashing these campaigns from the primaries through the general election so yes they are statist.

What should be looked into is why there was no establishment support for the conservative candidates?

We still have recounts going on in for House and Senate seats and the GOP have done nothing to support these tea party candidates no matter if they are ahead or behind.

But what a “wipe out” as Rush said and what a historic victory for conservatism and the tea party.

The party establishment is next on the menu and they know it so they send out their spinmasters and hit pieces ..

That is a fair critique regarding the press. However, you don't give them the hammer to hit you with, either, as Angle did. And Reagan showed us that you don't hide from them, you beat them at their own game in getting your message out. Angle tried instead to avoid them.

Regarding the GOP establishment, Angle did nothing to smooth feathers after the primary - instead, from what I have seen, she ruffled them further. Not good - there were a couple of critics of the Adcock campaign that I would have loved to unload upon, but I held back because it would have just furthered the food fight.

Thanks. Lessons learned (or to be learned). With that in hand 2012 should be even more fun than this year:

23 Dems have to defend their Senate seats.

And it turns out they were correct. You don't improve your game by denying its flaws.

Karl Rove is a master at that. Admit it, Bush wouldn’t had became President without his help.
