Gates urges Congress to repeal gay ban now

MELBOURNE, Australia – U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Congress should act quickly, before new members take their seats, to repeal the military's ban on gays serving openly in the military.

He, however, did not sound optimistic that the current Congress would use a brief postelection session to get rid of the law known as "don't ask, don't tell."

"I would like to see the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" but I'm not sure what the prospects for that are," Gates said Saturday, as he traveled to defense and diplomatic meetings in Australia.

Unless the lame-duck Congress acts, the repeal effort is considered dead for now.

Can’t figure out what’s wrong with this guy. He did some time in the Air Force, so should know this is not a good idea.

Robert Gates has served under the elder George Bush....So you would think he was somewhat restrained and conservative. But I guess not. The glory of serving under Obongo trumps that plus the added brownie points he picks up with this gay thing. Useful when clinking cocktail glasses with his liberal friends

>>But yes, I think you’re right that it’s by design to cause conflict and neutralize the faithful in the military.

I’ve been trying to figure out the reason for the big push to get open homosexuality into the military. I saw some articles a few months ago about “concerns” that fundamentialist Christianity is big among military people and I think you’re right. They need to purge the people who answer to a Higher Power than the Presidentor they’ll never be able to use the military to herd and control the masses when the Fed is done destroying the economy.

Gates, apparently, is one of Pres GW Bush’s worst mistakes foisted on America.

We all must write our senators and representatives and have them resist this push to injure America’s ability to fight and win wars.

We need a Senator to filibuster this once it comes up. It could even be a real filibuster since it need go only about 2 months.

Those Senators up for election in 2012 in the more conservative States combined with the truly conservative Senators will have the numbers to sustain a filibuster. We can count on Snowe, Collins, Brown, Voinovich, etc. not to stand against this.

Its about time Gates stood up and said something.

Whether you’re for or against this issues, you have to see how dangerous it is for the Judiciary to step all over the authority of the military.

Some federal judges must not be familiar with the Constitution. Those same judges need to be removed.

It’s not enough for Gates to act to reassert his authority over military policy, Congress must act to put these activist judges back in their place. Remind them of their jurisdiction, fire them...A little oversight would go a long way.

What Gates is doing is trying to destroy the military!

It’s not enough for Gates to act to reassert his authority over military policy,

Are you a retread?

I agree. Kafka-esque indeed. He’s a ruling class yes man, and has been given orders from the commander in cheif, whomever that may be. This is another play in the “let’s destroy America” theatre.

1. Take over education to de moralize, entertain, instill sarcasm instead of thankfulness, and a sense of grievance and or entitlement, resulting in division.
2. Replace independence with dependence on government.
3. Confiscate private wealth and independant information.
4. Abolish the nation state in favor of a global union.

NO.

REGARDLESS OF HOW ONE FEELS ABOUT GAYS IN THE MILITARY - AND I AM NOT A SUPPORTER - I AM SIGNIFICANTLY MORE OUTRAGED BY THE TRAMPLING OF THE CONSTITUTION BY THE JUDICIARY.

ARE YOU ILLITERATE OR DO YOU ALWAYS JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS AND INSULT WOULD-BE ALLIES?

Gates is showing his true colors now that he won’t be around a whole lot longer. A filibuster is definitely in order to stop this madness and a buttbuster for Gates as he walks out the door.

It’s better for him to say nothing in this case, he’s doing our military a terrible injustice.

I agree that the military should stay out of it, but that doesn't excuse Gates supporting militant homosexualism.

ARE YOU ILLITERATE OR DO YOU ALWAYS JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS AND INSULT WOULD-BE ALLIES? Calm down troll.

First of all, I didn't insult you, I only asked if you were a retread (a theory which is growing stronger), there are a bunch of retreads pushing this agenda.

Secondly, what in the world makes you think you are an ally? You are praising Gates for wanting to sodomize the military.

That a geek. A very smart geek.

Intelligence or education does not qualify anyone, especially liberals elitists as "smart" just because of some degree or title behind their name. Gates is so "smart" that he is a blithering idiot who is trying to ram some socialist liberal experiment onto our military, just because of his own pro-gay biases & leftist agenda.

Romans 1:22 says "Professing to be wise, they became fools". II Timothy 3:7 says "Ever learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth". These two verses from God's Word charactize the entire cast of demoRAT liberal nitwits and especially the 0b0z0 administration including Gates.

I believe it was William Buckley who said he would rather be governed by the first 300 names in a telephone book, rather then the entire Harvard faculty. I think he was spot on! I agree.

Gates’ replacement won’t be any better since he’s Obama’s man, but I doubt he could be any worse in terms of social engineering.

This battle will be won in Congress and the Supreme Court, I fear, because the sub-dictators in the Fed courts are determined to have their own way.

Wagglebee, the above is what WAW wrote, and I do think that he might have meant:

1. Gates isn't the only one who should be involved in stopping gays in the military.

2. Congress needs to step in and smack down the judges.

I agree with #1 and #2. If that's what WAW meant, then I think your problems with him might just be the way the sentence came out.

WAW do you agree with 1 & 2 above?

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION AS THIS MAY BE THE LAST TIME I EVER INDULGE A MORON IN CONVERSATION. I WILL SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU.

I AM NOT PUSHING ANY AGENDA EXCEPT THE RULE OF LAW UNDER THE US CONSTITUTION.

THE MILITARY FALLS UNDER THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH. THEY CAN MAKE POLICY DECISIONS WITH REGARD TO THE MILITARY. IT IS THEIR PURVIEW.

THE CONSTITUTION STATES THAT CONGRESS SHALL MAKE THE LAWS REGARDING THE MILITARY. THAT IS THE CHECK; THE BALANCE.

THERE IS NO ROOM FOR THE JUDICIARY TO MAKE RULES TO OVERRIDE CONGRESS OR THE EXECUTIVE IN THIS. THE CONSTITUTION IS VIBRANTLY CLEAR.

GATES IS CLEARLY NOW PART OF THIS ADMINISTRATION. HE TAKES A POSITION AND HE CAN BE CALLED OUT FOR IT. ALL GOOD AND WELL. HE’S WRONG. THIS WHOLE ADMINISTRATION IS WRONG. BUT THE USURPATION OF THE CONSTITUTION UNDERMINES THE VERY FABRIC OF THE REPUBLIC WE LOVE. THAT’S THE ISSUE. GATES IS NOT THE ISSUE.

IS IT NO STARTLING COINCIDENCE TO YOU - OR ANYONE FOR THAT FACT - THAT THIS RULING CAME OUT OF A FEDERAL COURT BASED IN CALIFORNIA JUST BEFORE THE ELECTION.

THEY WANT TO DIVIDE US. THEY WANT TO SAY, LOOK AT THOSE PEOPLE, THEY ARE ALL BIGOTS. THEY WANT TO SQUELCH YOUR RIGHTS.

THE ONLY RIGHTS THAT MATTER ARE THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL. THIS IDEA OF GROUP RIGHTS IS A DEVICE WHICH THE LEFT USES AS A WEDGE TO INSERT THEIR TYRANNY.

YOU WANT TO FALL INTO THAT TRAP? DO YOU THINK IT’S MORE IMPORTANT TO INSULT ME, OR TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION AND THE REPUBLIC IT IS DESIGNED TO UPHOLD?

I agree, his replacement will undoubtedly be worse than him but it doesn’t excuse his stance on this.

I’m sure you’re right about Congress and the SC though the courts should not be in it at all. The 9th staying the judges ruling in Riverside shows just how out of line she was. If it gets to SCOTUS, which I think it will, I hope we have the same Justices, we’ll at least have a chance .
